Dallas has one of the largest urban forests in the country.

NOLA is pretty high. Baton Rouge is about average (although it should be below average for what you get as far as the city), and every thing else is dirt cheap

...SoLa is VERY expensive. Go compare price per sf in Lafayette, Thibodaux, etc. to Houston suburbs. Its fricking insane how expensive homes are where they are. Had a friend from Thibodaux share a listing on FB. Around $425k for a home that's 1800sf. That's fricking ridiculous.....I do get the metrics of labor and materials being far more available in Houston, but damn!

It’s no secret the Southeast is way more green than over here. I wish we had Georgia’s geography

It's mainly the border schools and hospitals that brings down the rankings for TX. Many of the schools in Austin, suburbs of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio are on par with the best in the country.

There is a reason so many from Louisiana are moving to Houston.

Jobs, amazing schools not having to pay for private tuition, cheaper cost of living, car insurance 1/2 cost of what it is in Louisiana, cheaper housing insurance and electricity, list goes on

Median home in Lafayette $162k

Katy $248k
Woodlands $326k
Spring $186k

Yeah but they’re just the same.

And comparing a city to the suburbs is

Not gonna call bullshite on that, well, yes I am.

This is the only listing on Zillow for a house in Thibodaux under 2k sqft and at least $400k.

It's also on over an acre and a half and has an over 1300 sqft apartment and a workshop. That is an outlier at best.

There's no opinions on this. Louisiana is not expensive, that is a fact.

And probably 10 acres.

It’s not necessarily just the border. A lot of our rural districts are atrocious

Seems like a dumb way to evaluate or rank the current state of the educational system...

We got a lot of construction workers and oil jobs and messicans who don’t have or need a bachelors. Of course we have a higher than average % of people without college degrees. But what would that have to do with public schools and the UT system, for example?

Educated parents lead to educated children. Texas also ranks at or below the national average in most testing metrics. Lastly, Texas is near the bottom of educational spending. They get alot of bang for their buck, but historically that can lead to problems too.

Texas schools aren't bad, and calling them a problem is relative to their strong business metrics in most other categories. There are elite schools in Texas too, but not everyone lives in a suburb.

I don't disagree with anything you said, the problem here is its a Tale of Two Cities type deal. Using the average isn't really indicative of the characteristics because you have excellant schools and terrible schools. There probably aren't a ton of schools that actually fit into the average characteristics.

I love when the Louisiana defending retards see a ranking like this and then come try to make the case about how Louisiana isn’t really a shite hole and is “what you make it”.

My favorite is “everywhere is like this”.... it’s not.

ITT: Lots of people that don't understand more than 50% of Texas lives outside the Houston and Dallas metro areas.
