5. General American / Neutral Accent (Midwest, Mountain States, Pacific Northwest, parts of the West Coast)
The Ted Baxter Announcer Voice is not neutral or standard. People have been conditioned to think this since the launch of radio. It's simply another accent

UK people have been similarly indoctrinated, that the Oxford Accent ("And now for something completely different") is the "standard"

That is awful.

Cali girl is grating.

New York accents are disgusting to a normal person’s ears.

Chalmette accent even worse

I’ve always felt like there’s a neutral accent in Baton Rouge compared with other southern cities

Baton Rouge folks have a way of saying certain words. Not sure if it’s an accent per se, but I can recognize when someone is from BR

How is Indiana considered neutral? They’ve got more of an accent than half the list.

Yeah, Wisconsin too. Midwest is definitely not “neutral”.

We come in dead last? frick all that. You're not gonna tell me that greasy arse New York accent or the New Englander/Boston accents don't sound ten times worse than Kentucky/Tennessee mountain accent.

Appalachian English is genuinely one of the ugliest accents I’ve ever heard. It tries the hardest to sound as uneducated and uncivilized as possible.

I don't think that most parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania (outside of Philly) Michigan, Indiana, have a distinct accent. Its what most people would consider the neutral tone.

NE Ohio is a different animal, and parts of PA and OH in Appalachia have their thing, and I'm sure there are other pockets. But generally those are neutral states IMO.

Multi-generational Uptown New Orleans beats them all. Just a slight Southern accent that in a young woman is alluring while in a matron can be withering.
