I can only view 2 years of returns in my 401k but I'm down 7% from 4/1/21 to current.

I don’t care about your individual performance. The total market is higher today than 1/6/2021.

Dependency on outside finances are the issue, not the finances..

If youre an adult (25 or older today) you shouldn't depend on parents to help you with cash.

I have zero problem with parents saving and deciding to spend on their adult child when they get married or their first house or graduates. As long as they're spending actual money and not financing it. Zero Problem and in fact, feel like it's a great and honorable thing to do as a parent.

What I do have a problem with is adults draining their parent's wealth by being minimally employed and making bad decisions. Constantly having to come back for $20k to cover their short falls. Basically what you're going to see is a whole generation living for today with little to no regard for their or their kid's future. Honestly that future is today because half the country is on govt assistance and they're the one making kids without a care in the world. Which dovetails nicely into the crime statistics as well.

Still not seeing how receiving help = being an adult who can’t survive without it.

People asked how others are able to take vacations or drive certain cars or live in nice houses, and one of the many reasons listed was that lots of people receive family help. They didn’t say they weren’t working or something. Just that the help they receive is how they are able to live a higher standard of living. Again, why are we knocking this?

If we are knocking people that don’t work and live in mom’s basement, I’m sure most anyone here would agree with you, but I don’t think that was ever the topic. It was about people who work and live a higher standard of living.

It doesn't. It matters when you depend on it.

It’s kind of concerning that everyone I know that’s parents help them like this have little piddly 50k a year jobs when their parents had real jobs

I realize the good “real jobs” from the old days aren’t as good now like doctor lawyer etc

Probably, as does most of the population because most of us lost money or experienced less growth (depends how you want it framed).

All due to Covidian fantasies.

I agree with you. It’s not right the welfare crowd gets it for free or super reduced, yet the regular worker can’t afford it and gets no help or it eats up their budget. We are doing it wrong subsidizing when the average person can hardly make ot.

I feel bad for guys like bezos and musk. They make good money but they still can’t afford to eat steak and lobster every day like somebody with an ebt card

Would you feel good being dependent on welfare? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Right, no one is acting like the market has been killing it by any stretch, but I'm still up ~6% since Biden took office.

So a ~7% increase over a period that has seen ~20% inflation? It's better than stuffing the cash in a mattress, but not what I'd call a good investment.
