Do not ever EVER fly Spirit airlines.
Cheap fare (like $88), but good luck if your plane leaves on time, or at all. I was warned by a few people, but did not listen. Drove to NOLA for my awesome cheap flight leaving in the morning. But the flight kept getting pushed back 2 hrs, then another 2 hrs, then another 2 hrs.......
Languished in the NOLA airport all day until 9 pm and they finally boarded us onto and airplane. Sat at the gate for over an hour waiting to push back (and take off), only to be told to de-plane and come back in the morning. Perfect weather -- so that was not the issue. Did not get vouchers for hotel, so that cost me an extra $135 arriving at 12 midnight, with instructions that we get on the first plane out at 6:30 am (so get up at 4 am and do the whole security bullshite again). Lots of police were present to deal with the "potential" very unhappy customers who might act out in response to being dissed and disrespected the whole day before with absolutely no new or updated info as we waited all day long to get a new flight info. Arrived at my destination barely on time the next day, exhausted and sleep deprived. Should have been fresh and good based on MY planning and booking choices.
Never ever again on Spirit Airlines. They place no value on what your time is worth. A simple 2-hour flight took 32 hrs of my time.

Had 5 gate changes a few years ago flying American out of Dallas.

American lost my luggage twice and had 3 flight delays out of 6 flights last year for me. POS airline with terrible customer service.

Don't fly at the end of the month. Pilots have used up their monthly limit and the airlines are scrambling to put butts in the front two seats. May is worse by having 31 days. American isn't the only airline in a jamb.

Seems like Southwest is the only US airline that doesn’t suck these days.
You mean the only American airline that’s killed someone in the last 20 years?

I flew American from Anchorage back to BR last week.
Was supposed to depart on Friday night at 9:45 PM. Flight was originally delayed to midnight. After sitting at the airport till 1AM they finally delay the flight again till 2PM the next day. Show up and there’s only one person working the check in desk so about an hour waiting in line there. Finally get boarded and start taxing and here’s the best part….
The guy that works the weight and balance computer isn’t at work today. So we sit on the plane for 2.5 hours waiting on that shite. Finally get to DFW around 1AM. I grabbed one of those mini hotels for a few hours and then finally made it to BTR around 11AM on Sunday. fricking miserable.

Flew MSY-CLT and back last weekend on American. No delays, bags were on the belt first with priority, and both flights landed 30 mins early. Great trip.

Flying anything other than Alaska to Anchorage is asking for trouble.

I'll be on American Thursday
Flying out of MRY is great. Probably 5 flights leave out of there a day. I can pull in the parking lot 10 min before my flight departs and still make it on the plane
Hope I didn't just jinx myself

They were going to leave us stranded with no compensation in Houston overnight trying to say it was weather... when it was going to cost them a few bucks the flight was held.
There it is. The problem in a nutshell. And Joe and Buttplug are there to fix this with proposing higher compensation for bumped or cancelled flights that could make air travel unaffordable again.
As long as they can blame it on weather, you get nothing, but the moment it becomes the airlines fault, it can be like getting a winning scratch off.

5 gate changes and two delays later
Now I fly Delta thru ATL. On the surface, it doesn't make sense to fly east in order to travel west, but I still get to PDX earlier than American got me there. And no gate changes.

They all do this. If you fly long enough with an airline they'll eventually screw you over. I've had the best luck with Delta but American has been fine for the most part
Posted on 5/31/23 at 6:19 am to dobiegil
If delta don’t go there neither will I

Delta is worse, by a lot. But AA sucks

I fly with American most of the time being in DFW. They have their issues but I’ve found overall most of the issues are “routine”. I never have to take connecting flights for work so that avoids half the problems there. Southwest is the other airline I use frequently and they are highly frustrating. Their customer service is the worst.

Nothing will happen until the government starts punishing airlines for some of this stuff, the delays, etc. Plus America is getting super fat so they should increase seat size via mandate.
That said I wonder how much of a problem are lousy low level employees and and how much of a problem are lousy supervisors who are conflict averse with their workers?

Regional airports are the best. I love them.
