The other factor is that theaters are middlemen. Streaming services are much cheaper than theatre chains and MGM and Paramount probably earn more by licensing out their films to Disney+ and their competition.

If I remember correctly, theaters don't keep much of the money from ticket sales. Their main source of income is on food and drinks. Unless whoever handles the distribution of the movies decides to change the model, theaters are unable to charge reasonable prices for food.
This could all be bullshite, but that would fit nicely on td, bc there is so much retarded shite posted on this site.

If you need to dump them fast, GiftCards4Change will allow you to donate them. You can write off the value as a tax deduction. I did that with a couple of cards I had.

No shite. When I take my niece to the movie, we HAVE to go the early show. That way we both get in for $15 instead of $15 each. And then popcorn/snacks is another $30. It costs me upwards of $50 to take a 5 year old to the movies.

A couple of weekends ago, we paid $19.99 to buy Onward from Amazon Video. We popped our own popcorn, drank our own drinks, had easy access to the bathroom, etc.
If this is a model that takes off, the theaters are in major, major, major trouble.
I can see a few screens staying open in each city to handle big premiers, movies where you want the big screen and sound, etc. But run of the mill movies?

Most theaters don't even project 35mm let alone 70mm.
The gap between theater tech and what we can have at has really narrowed.
We can sit in our drawers and watch the newest Star Wars flick.
Obviously streaming won't look as good as BRD or 4k, but it's usually not horrible unless your ISP sucks.
