But the big one in BR isn’t open. Will it?
Yes. That part of their business actually earns money.

Will Amazon expand?
Their core business of e-commerce and delivery goods to your door is still very strong and still expanding.

Are they hiring?
In Baton Rouge and other places with giant new DC's opening....absolutely.
But if you are a tech worker or project manager in Seattle or San Francisco that's been working from home for the last two year, drawing a $200K+ salary, and has trouble filling your day.....you might want to dust off your resume.

Yeah, places like BR will be fine. Those facilities actually provide value to shareholders.
The new distribution centers they are opening are delayed by lead times for construction materials. I think that might happen in Baton Rouge if it hasn't happened already.

All the tech companies are bloated...typical corporate structure..fire all the pointy-headed MBAs first...

Funny how all these layoffs are being announced after the midterm election. I'm sure it's just a coincidence though

IT is just getting hit now. Telecommunications saw the Tradewinds 2 years ago and began reductions then.

Corporate and tech roles. I'm sure they're adding positions in their warehouses as we speak.
You'd think tech roles would be more important at peak volume.
Corporate probably has no shortage of people they don't need.

It appears that corporate America has realized that all the WFH tech employees really aren’t as important as they think they are.
As a current corporate tech employee that's WFH (studying at a coffee shop) I resent this statement!

Almost all of these are going to be HR and marketing people

Amazon has been advertising like crazy for careers at Amazon that will get you into technology and an education. I'm guessing these layoffs are clearing out the bloat and they will be able to fill the gaps with less expensive, hungry talent.

Seriously, just finished an early lunch in my workout clothes. Made a nice salad for lunch, after putting up the dishes all while listening in on a meeting. I have some compliance and admin work I need to do while I participate in an few more meetings this afternoon, but will finish up in time to climb up into the deer stand before dark.
Have a nice day at the plant Baw!

These aren't really "tech" layoffs...they're call center, retail, warehouse, etc layoffs.

Right before peak shopping season? Yikes.
But right after the election. The Dem machine collected all their votes before processing them.
You hate to see it happen.

Depends honestly. SO's company just reorganized a couple of their teams that allowed them to drop some dead weight, so him and his coworkers are all for it.
They're still planning on hiring in a couple positions at the beginning of year.

As someone who works in IT can you explain why it's a good thing IT jobs are taking a hit? I don't particularly see any jobs taking hits as a good thing outside of maybe some college professors and people who travel around to push agendas.
