The article goes on to mention that on the same day, Amazon announced it was closing a number of retail stores, including many in malls.
Look, I don't know how or why, but Lakeside is booming. Most malls haver completely collapsed, but Lakeside is stronger than ever.
I don't think Amazon closing other mall stores necessarily means this won't happen.
Lakeside is one of the few current success stories Louisiana has. It will be interesting to see what an Amazon store in that mall would look like, what it would carry, etc.

A permit application filed in Jefferson Parish on March 3 sought permission to remodel 4,657 square feet of retail space at Lakeside for "retail use." The permit listed "Amazon" as the business seeking the approval, which would have demolished a previous retailer's space and installed new "storefront, partitions, doors, lighting" and other elements.

Today I learned Amazon had its own retail stores. I knew they had Whole Foods and they have a presence in Kohls. But I didn’t realize there were actual Amazon stores.

Lakeside is and has always been in an amazing location.
It’s right smack in the middle of Metairie and everyone going from the Northshore to New Orleans passes it twice on every commute.

I’d imagine it’s probably going to be on the Veterans side and replace J Crew.

The Woodlands mall has an Amazon store, it basically carries small items that are popular in the area. For example, they take the top 100 items people buy around the area and stock the store with it.

Lakeside Mall on a Saturday is my personal hell

Amazon has several brick and mortar stores including the 4 star amongst other things.
It was announced at the annual meeting that Amazon is strongly making a brick and mortar push to diversify.

They now have a wine bar.
And some comfortable seating.

I’ve always admired that lakeside mall was able to continue to grow.
Location is strong.

I always suspected that Cynthia Lee-Sheng's push to "clean up" Fat City and force the bars out of business was a plan to have Lakeside grow to that side of Severn. Sheng and the Citanovich's own most of the property in Fat City.
There really is no more room for Lakeside to expand at it's current location, so a Fat City expansion makes sense

Lakeside is one of the most profitable malls in the country. True story.

The Amazon stores I’ve been to have been underwhelming. That includes both their mall shops and the Fresh branded grocery stores.

Their second album has a song “the devil lives in gentilly” it’s awesome. I think of the lakeside mall song every time anyone talks about the mall. “Audrey Hepburn” is a badass song too.
