If there is anything “unfair” about working at the Amazon facility they are free to go work somewhere else.
So if a company is doing something illegal then it should stay hidden?
Some of these companies prey on poor people because they have no choice. Amazon bought that spot in NBR because it is close to what they need. Cheap labor that has few other options.
Yeah, they can quit and go find somewhere else, someone else will take their job. Amazon exploits that new person and no one dares speak up or else lose their job.

This is the kind of shite I'm talking about when it comes to calling them inherently untrustworthy. The people at the top in these companies are fricking scumbags.
Look at the pissing in the bottle incident last week. Amazon was called out on straight up lying because the internet is anonymous and employees can speak up.

So, you would rather they have no options?

You really believe Amazon is going to frick up their logistics and lose to WalMart?
They might posture, but Amazon isn't going to suddenly stop expanding.

Yeah, definitely not because of the proximity to important infrastructure, cleared and available land to build a giant warehouse that is also in a decent sized city...
No it was because Skwandavar’iuz and Jaxxxyn work cheap.
Boy you are dumb

Amazon will do whatever it takes to cut down on overhead, including full automation.
If I live in a shithole with very few options to make it out of the shithole, I'd be happy to have Amazon come in and give me the opportunity to make a living. Beats starving by a long shot.

When I moved back east 20 years ago, I worked for an engineering contractor for a bit. My location was tied to a specific plant, and it was unionized. Imagine my surprise when I see that $35 was deducted from my paycheck for union dues, without my approval or means to opt out. What a scam.
Biggest part of my job was running around all day reminding idiots to tie off when on scaffolding, to quit smoking around combustibles, and to escort drunk/high losers off the property. #UNIONPROUD
I ended up working for the company that owned the plant, and the amount of physical sabotage done by union workers to get their way was ridiculous.

We've seen tech companies, including Amazon, band together to eliminate free speech and essentially "de-person" people that the media and the left deem "dangerous" for going counter to the popular appropriate opinions. If they do that, I have no doubt they'll have no problems fricking over their employees, especially if it's expedient. That's why I say they're inherently untrustworthy. I'm actually not a pro-union person, but I'm definitely not a proponent of what we're told is a "free market" these days, which it certainly is not.
So just speculation, then. Got it.
We have a relatively free market. A true free market would involve no regulation and no minimum wage.

I had a feeling there were a few of you out there.
Company comes in, tears down a disgusting POS set of buildings, invests tons of money in a nice new facility, brings tons of new jobs to an area... and y'all think this is exploitation.

You forgot welfare. That's the alternate, not starving.

No doubt. They will automate as soon as that option becomes cheaper. Which means human employees have to get cheaper and cheaper to fight the eventual automation. Kind of the opposite of what employees want to do.

Lol, they do a job that amazon already has the technology to automate, and they make $15 min wage.

Automation is always inevitable. Machines are invented and will continually be invented to do the work of 20 people. The key is to get ahead of the automation curve by pulling your way up by getting trained and educated. Can't do that without making a living first.

It is their MO in every major distribution site. It makes great business sense.

What do they need a union for exactly?

Sorry you're not intelligent enough to form a relevant rebuttal to my point.
Amazon has already automated picking and packing. They don't "need" large swaths of unskilled workers.

Yes. Union-friendly states have certainly been hotbeds of blue collar job growth in the past 40 years.
