There’s gonna be 30x robots than people. What happened to the XOM tax credit deal?
Anyway here’s a video of a Amazon fulfillment center with robots. Some FC’s are manual, others are robots. Here is a cool video of a FC with robots.

wait so they want to stiff BRPD/EBRSD while sending their employees into NBR for work everyday?
Posted on 2/10/21 at 8:22 am to Sentrius
The BR council/SWB/GRAVY will find a way to screw this up, again
They simply can't get out of their own way, which is almost impossible for Gravy.

This is a much better deal than the film tax credit scam.
The exemption is for ten years. It’s a partial exemption, they will still pay School taxes.
The local and state governments will still collect sakes tax and income tax in construction workers and permanent employees.
In the short haul it’s a plus. After ten years it would be even better provided things don’t evolve in another direction

They should not qualify for ITEP. They are not a manufacturer.
This is what is so screwed up about our tax system in Louisiana. They try to crave out exemptions here and exemptions there and they are never fairly administered.
End the homestead exemption and ITEP today, roll back the millages so collections are the same and then we will have a fair property tax system. Much lower taxes on property but everybody paying them.

I suspect the mall is taxed now. They could of course sell it at a tax sale.
This is not like traditional ITEP where the assets are new.
If they are going to have ITEP then they need to administer it fairly.

They are not paying for jobs. They are not giving Amazon anything. They are simply wanting to not tax them.
NONETHELESS, ITEP does not apply to non manufacturing companies.
Do away with ITEP and the homestead exemption and lower taxes accordingly. All would have lower taxes but all would pay.

Meanwhile, a multiple of that will be dropped into the local economy in the form of wages.
and if you dont give them the tax break, and thye just decide not to build the facility and then buy land with interstate access in ascension or livingston (or tangi by i-55 and i-10 and BR still doesnt get the tax revenue nor the associated jobs....
they are taking a dead dilapidated property, knocking it down and building a start of the art facility. this will make the property around the mall site and spur gentrification....
plus my wife can get all the stuff she orders on a day or less..... (happy wife.....)

I feel like I missed something. But to be fair it was a dying mall 20 years ago.

And Cortana would remain an abandoned eye sore. And north Baton Rouge would lose out on 1,000+ jobs for unskilled labor that it desperately needs.
Not a difficult choice IMO.
Honestly this is the best realistic outcome for that property, which already has utilities and streets connected to it. And they aren't asking for very much in return.

Even if Amazon is not dominating e-commerce in 10 years (it likely will), that business model is here to stay. If anything, it will accelerate.

Im fine with the tax breaks,, but why does liberal Bezos want to avoid taxes? Fair share and all that.

This is not an ITEP. It's not going before the BCI.
It is a PILOT.
PILOTs and TIFs have been around for a while when it comes to economic development.

I support this, but the general feeling is that the taxes wouldn't quite roll back enough to make it tax neutral. Just a lack of trust.

They'll probably spend most of that $35 million in savings to demolish the mall and the parking lot.
Which is what the taxpayers would eventually have to do if Amazon went to Livingston Parish or some other place.
