Not if it's in the lease agreement

Thanks for the responses. I’ll contact the homeowner and we’ll see what happens I guess.

You may want to at least clean them out if that's the case. Keep your relationship in tact. Worth the hour or two.

How does "water" from your gutters frick up the "drainage system" in his yard. Are we talking about a French drain or solid pipe drainage?

There is no lease. Did you read the posts?
Eta: and the original comment said that if it isn't explicitly stated that maintenance is responsibilty of the homeowner than the tenant is responsible. Which is incorrect

I just moved into a rent house in August and it’s in an actual neighborhood. Like 10 ft between houses and what not.
Well it’s been raining like a mofo in Dallas the last month and my neighbor came over when I got home from work yesterday and started bitching about how the water from my gutters completely fricked up his drainage system in his yard.
Said he was having to get it completely re-done and there was a crew doing it this morning.
All i’m Wondering is am I responsible for this? I don’t know shite about property damage laws or drainage systems.
I mean my gutters don’t look incredible or anything and probably could be cleaned out, but is this something I just need to pass on to my landlord or what?
Not your gutters, not your house, not your problem.

Yeah I honestly don’t know what gutters he is even talking about. I have some on the side of the house that shoot out into some dirt like every other gutter on a house I've seen so I’m not sure.
I really feel like these recent heavy rain storms just caused a random event and he’s looking to blame someone else.

Unless there is an agreement with the tenant to make exterior repairs, the landlord is responsible. And that agreement better be in writing.
I've been "managing" property for a few decades now, it all comes down to what's in the lease agreement, and the terms can be very specific(I have one property where I agree to take care of the front yard, tenant responsibility for the back, for example,) or they can be very broad, I've gotten real specific over the years because of the whiny assed tenants that think I'm responsible for keeping toilet paper stocked, or replacing light bulbs, for example, couldn't have a better landlord than me, but I've had enough

Well, that's just dumb on your part and the family member, too. ALWAYS get the agreement in writing...especially with a family member.

The post I replied to and the post from 777 above yours was a full page after he said there was no lease.

Is his wife hot? Bang her.

How might your landlords gutters done such a thing? Unless you changed the natural flow of the drainage since moving in, I don't see how you are responsible for anything.

OP needs to read his lease and see the terms and conditions of his agreement. He might have a gudda clause.
