If the person that did the fence is shitty then, by all means, be shitty back but no need to start off that way.

That crappy fence takes away greatly the appeal of your neighbors beautiful pergola.

How did someone down vote this post? I operate the same way at work. If you're understanding of my mistake and not an a-hole I will go above and beyond. If you're an a-hole you get only what I needed to do.

First of all, that is an ugly fence. The alternating sides is just dumb.
Second, when running your stringer boards they use a level. Based on the distance between them, I would say they are all level and the ground is not, therefore you get that awkward look. No way to fix it unless you level the ground first.

My first thought was that the stringer boards were not consistently installed. I could be wrong since I'm old.

Are guys that silly... it called a neighbor friendly fence. A lot of Hoa's require them.
Plus if your splitting cost with the neighbor it makes sense both of you get some nice side.

Here's my fence. This is how a fence should look.

Nice looking fence but that top runner is going to eventually curl up towards the sun in areas. The other similar fence posted earlier is less likely to do so due to its design.
Of course, all privacy fences look shitty after a few years IMO.

Just build what is called a neighbor friendly fence. Cheaper and better looking.

It's one of those "alternating" fences where each panel switches from inside to outside.
That's how our HOA says it needs to be done... it's so nobody has all inside fencing or all outside fencing.
That has to be the most stupid thing I've ever heard.

This is alternating sides, OP fence looks terrible.

But you have a lame back yard
Posted on 6/28/16 at 9:42 am to PapaPogey
The things you are worried about shouldn't be what bothers you, or you even notice, when you look at this fence. The shite is hideous. Trust me.. Nobody will ever walk into your back yard and notice the crap you think is wrong with the fence.
Does your neighbor have to pay half the bill??
If I was your neighbor I would rather have ALL the backside of the fence facing me, rather than that shite you have.

Okay, here is another problem I just noticed. I went out to look at it again, and I noticed that they didn't pull all of the posts out of the ground. There are two spots where I noticed they simply broke the old posts off at the base and built the new fence kind of on top of it:
That seems very shoddy.

The gift that keeps on giving. This is why I'm building my own fence when the time comes.

But if I had an HOA that required that I'd move or never bought.

True, It would be obvious if the bottom runners were level with the ground causing the space between them and the middle runners to be uneven. Sucks to have an non-level backyard.

So Houston has never heard of this?
