I followed behind her to her car, an early 90's Chevy.

I'm glad to hear that she was able to get back in her car after I gave her $50 for Pop A Lock.

These blessings pay forward. She will do what little she can to help another and that person will help another, etc.

Good on you.

I was in Publix on Piedmont and North Ave awhile back and an elderly lady in front of me was buying some ready made food and was digging for change to try to pay for it. I told the cashier to put it on my tab. The lady was so happy for that small act of kindness and I just asked her to pay it forward.

to you and the OP

You really need to write a paper about the good deed you did? I applaud your actions, but do you really need to run to a message board and let everyone know how "soft" you've become.
Just do the deed and reap the benefits of the ramifications of your good deed. No need to run and tell everyone about it.

Good on ya, Mike. I've helped some folks from time to time in similar fashion. Sometimes life gives people difficulties and obstacles. If you never had any yourself then count yourself blessed. If you are in a position to help someone then open your eyes to the need that is out there. There's a lot of people in LA still hurting right now from the oilfield economy.

Let us know if she gives your friend a call and we'll know if you got suckered.

Do unto others. If more of us lived by that simple mantra, we would all enjoy life more. Would have done the same thing, and have many times.

I read your complete post. You did nothing wrong. I have done. What you did numerous times. I always had a good experience after those gifts of charity Of course after you get in contact again you may find out the truth didn't come out the first time;but, that is rare. You are not getting soft. Carry on marine.

Feel good about what you did OP. You gave help to someone you thought was in need. That's the imperative. If she was lying, that's on her. If she uses the money for drugs, that's on her too. You did what you felt was right.
