Make sure you get all your baseline certs, if you haven't.
Try to get around LMP and the next thing, EIB.

I had the same problem(sort of), my mother is sick, was asked to move back home. Took an assignment(lost basically 7months of my life), couldn't find anything, took a job building patio covers/home remodeling. Pay wad not great but it fed me,paid my bills, kept the lights on.
Seasons changed, Work got slow, found my self looking, begging, for work. Took an opportunity selling cars, became the top salesman(awarded).
Its not what or where I want to be, but since they gave me an opportunity im giving my best.

What really pisses me off (and at this point I am admittedly throwing a pity party) is that I was deployed for two years. Two years away from my kids and wife. And I see all these "hire our vets" commercials and I just want to scream at the TV "no one fricking cares!" it sounds awesome and everyone thanks me for my service, and that's where it ends.

We are currently trying to find a vet in his thirties get a job as well. He was laid off from a shrimp factory because the season ended and business is too slow. now him, his wife and 9 month old are homeless. They are living in hotel rooms and friends and neighbors homes desperately trying to find a job. He has never once begged for money. Just a job. It is so sad. He has filled out application after application but no one will hire him.

i dont see a problem with finding jobs.
craigslist has tons of openings all day everyday.
you have to look every hour and hell tons of temp services are hiring as well from 8-14 bucks an hour.
you must be looking in all the wrong places. never look in the newspaper every idiot can go buy one and they will be overloaded with retards to sift through. hell 2 years ago i had gotten over 10 jobs just from craigslist alone. best gig i had was a flooring helper and that paid $15 an hour with no prior experience. also worked as a iron worker helper and that paid 20 an hour and lasted over 6 months.

If anyone is in either san antonio/austin/dallas/houston we are hiring like crazy. I need commissioned sales people and skilled labor (we can train the skilled part, just need to be sane and professional looking).
I will hire vets, out of work bankers, anything. We are busy as hell for skilled labor and have a ton of cold, warm, hot leads for any one that can talk smoothly on the phone.

I know we have environmental response teams all along the gulf coast. It's worth a check on the website.

Unfortunately, I am bound to Shreveport.

What kind of bachelor's do you have?
Have you looked into the Troops to Teachers program?
ETA: Also, doesn't state government give extra points to vets? One thing I have to give Louisiana props for: They have a pretty awesome state government application process.

I have a BA in History. (I know right). I was going to school to teach, but got a really good job with a defense contractor. I still have that option. But I can't go back to school with my current job.
Don't even get me started on state jobs. I scored perfect scores on both exams and can't even get an interview for office bitch.

The casinos hire anyone. A worker of mine just got hired by the Beau Rivage as a cook. He has a felony.
Anyone with half a brain can move up easily and they have numerous different departments
ETA: one guy mentioned stennis. There's the shipyard in Pascagoula.

Have you looked into alternate route teaching programs? Are you locked into Shreveport? Mississippi is begging for teachers in certain areas and is pretty good about utilizing the Troops to Teachers program. And it's alternate route is pretty easy to navigate.
Also, there are a gazillion online teaching programs. You couldn't do one of those to get certified?

I'll figure it out. I'm just pissed about being in such a good place and thinking that's how things were always going to be and now it isn't.
Pity party over.
Good night
