I finished at 3 different schools. 1 calls quarterly, 1 calls twice a year, LSU never calls, mails or emails.

I've given before, hope to again, but things ain't great now

Don't think LSU has ever asked me for money.

This is their primary issue. Moret appears to be making this a priority based on the recent Business Report feature.

Not surprising since most LSU fans are pickup truck alumni.

Not that I have any money to donate (at least not yet), but I'm not going to donate to an administration that attacks the school's traditions and culture. I'm looking at you, Mari.

That's pretty damn pathetic. I never hear from LSU asking for money and always hear from my undergrad. Donate to both equally, though.

UNO called me about four months after graduation asking for $50. I told them that I was unemployed and $26k in debt from student loans. The woman said that she "understood," then proceeded to ask me for $25. I told her that I didn't think that she understood. Haven't had a call back yet. Plenty of emails, though.
Even if I was employed and making good money, I'll never give money to a public institution.

If I gave back I'd rather give money directly to a fund that was for a specific project or department than to write a check to the alumni association or whatever the frick
That's what I did, to department.
LSU alumni association seems fine but I'm not giving them anything. There was the sex scandal and all I see is football tickets and memorabilia. So much more could be done.

I've never given anything. I don't intend to

LSU's problem is LSU.
TAF is a beast in Louisiana. Once your average graduate pays for TAF fees and football season tickets, a good portion of the entertainment budget is busted.
"Giving" back to the Alumni Association or University is no longer and option once the check to TAF has been cut.
There will be a serious issue between TAF and the Alumni Association in the next decade. You will see alumni that donate to on campus endeavors get access to prime seating...it is only a matter of time.
A couple of posters mentioned the lack of support for the Greek system. What I am seeing is that the Greek system is suffering across the nation....same as civic and other fraternal organizations. I wish I had an answer because a solid Greek system is important to a university.

I gave to Tulane last year. Someone from Tulane called to say thanks, and said that the money was going to be used to send students to Europe for the summer. That will be my last donation to Tulane.

Is the rate for SUBR a direct correlation to restaurant tips given as well?

My undergrad university only mails me.
My grad uni calls me. calls me. calls me. Even when I was in grad school.

HBCU have a poor history of alumni donations. I think it mainly stems from the fact that most alumni are not financially stable even after obtaining the degree.

We give loads to the university... it just goes through TAF first.

My college at LSU calls once or twice a year asking for money. I don't ever recall getting a call from the main office, but I might have just not answered if it was a number I didn't recognize.

I got my undergrad and masters from LSU and frick giving them a bunch of money, the administration doesn't have a clue what they're doing, the money wouldn't do anything to improve the lives of the students or hire better teachers, so what exactly is the point?
Posted on 6/9/16 at 7:23 am to TaderSalad
I currently give through TAF and tuition. As an undergrad, I donated in parking tickets. It's enough.

I give $500/yr to the the Alumni Association at Alabama. That goes mostly to scholarships.
One time I gave directly to the school I graduated from but probably won't be doing that again or too often.
I will never give money directly to Tide Pride.
