I don't really see how there are two sides to this, everyone wants to "pick a side" but there is no side.
Did the guy deserve to get detained and arrested by the police? Yes absolutely he broke several laws.
Did the guy deserve to get executed by 6 gun shots point blank to the chest? No absolutely not.
Police need better training how to handle those situations, it looked like he was pretty damn detained, if he's going for a gun break his hand or knock him out. Teach the police how to do that in those situations.
Nobody was in the right here, why must we all choose a side?
