If the job was in FW, no question that I’d live there.

No, unless you love traffic

Live close to your day job. If what you listed are for weekends and evenings you'll travel less for those. Your daily commute happens, well, twice a day.

When I was down there I worked in downtown Ft. Worth in the Oil and Gas building, but lived in Bedford. It worked out well, the commute wasn't bad at all.

Live in Ft Worth and take the TRE to Dallas on your "hip, urban" weekends.

If he’s willing to pay 200 a month in tolls he can take the express lanes almost all he way to 35E from Ft. Worth.

30 min commute. Comes at a cost though.

Edit: or vice versa.

Colleyville is nice, I live here but the people are snobs and soccer moms wearing lulu lemon are everywhere. It’s like a more expensive Katy TX. I agree it’s a good central location. Takes about forty minutes to get to downtown Fort Worth at rush hour. Don’t know if I could do that commute every day though. Bedford/Euless may ne better for this guys income bracket.

No, absolutely not. You’re gonna drive a minimum of 2 hours a day. 3 on Fridays. Don’t do it man. Live where you work. Fort Worth has a lot of good areas and you can drive to Dallas if you run out of stuff to do. You can find good public schools in FW as well, just do your research before you move

I live in Frisco and have a project in Fort Worth. It takes at minimum 1 hour to get to and from during traffic times.

If you lived in Dallas proper and sent your kids to private school it wouldn’t be too bad of a commute.

Bottom line is if you work I’m FW live in FW.

Here I am thinking you baws living in Dallas are just overpaying for 1,500sqft houses, but then I get to looking into it and find this:

quote:

In Dallas, a household must make $425,060 to be in the top 1%. If you make just over $100,000, congratulations, you are in the top 25%.

From 2012, but still....

So this guy would be well into the top 25% of household incomes, but he'd be a "poor"? Good luck with that shite.

I'm sure. That's true in most places, though. The question is, have incomes increased at the same pace?

Houses are being resold for over 100k the purchase price previously. Not sure wages have been increasing that fast

Saw a house on Zillow last night that was bought in 2011 for 212k and they have it back for resale at 369k. This was after a 15k reduction

I read some Reddit posts about Dallas and Ft Worth selling homes over asking price and many purchase being paid for in cash.

They assumed it’s West Coast and NYC folks moving to cheaper pastures.

That shite is crazy. I will say, we bought our house in May of 2016 and by that time the following year it had already increased $30k. I doubt it jumps over $100k anytime soon, though. I guess as long as they paid me a lot more for the same work I do here, it would make sense. I've just never understood some of these places I see where a 1,000-2,000sqft home costs half a mil or more. That's just nuts.

I live in Grapevine and commute to Fort Worth each day. Easy commute in my opinion. My wife works in Addison so we're at the exact middle point between the two cities. You should look at Colleyville, Southlake and Grapevine. It's a fantastic area to live. Great location, great schools, great shopping and entertainment, lakes, parks....you name it, we have it. You can get anywhere in the DFW area fairly easy. Hit me up if you want more info.

I stan for Dallas all the time but there is little chance I'd be willing to make that commute every day.

Just don't make the mistake of living in Arlington.

Pretty much the norm. I think my parents' house in Frisco sold for $100k more than they bought it. Like 2012 to 2017.

No way. Your quality of life will take a huge hit from the commute alone. For years I drove from uptown to Plano. Never. Again. It was brutal. You can't look at commute based on distance alone. There is a lot of sitting still on a heavily congested freeway. Friday afternoons are the worst. More times than I care to remember, I would leave Dallas at 4 pm, only to park at 5:30 simply bc of the cluster frick. There's always an accident. Always.

Live where you work. With your income, this just doesn't make sense.
