I'd definitely contribute to an OT fundraiser.

Thanks!
I’ve lived in BR for 44 years. Can’t move now because my elderly in-laws are nearby and need us, but as soon as I can I’m leaving.
I’d like to make a donation too.

With a goal of $250,000, I'd only donate if it was a fundraiser to hire ex spec ops to police the city for a little bit.

Why can't we crowdsource our own security?

Crowdsourced security has no qualified immunity. That’s why

That’s actually not a bad idea. I live in Prairieville and feel helpless since I can’t necessarily show up to council meetings and raise hell since I’m not an EBR resident but I can definitely tell LSU my kids aren’t going there due to safety concerns. That is 100% true. I was just telling my wife yesterday that I don’t want our kids going to LSU even though we bleed purple and gold. It’s just not worth it. I’d gladly send them to ULL instead.

Same, I live in a different SEC town and this kind of thing does not happen here. As of now there is no chance my kid is going to LSU. I almost feel sorry for the next poor student worker that calls me asking for a donation. LSU is more worried about cracking down on tennis players repeating rap lyrics than students being raped, kidnapped and murdered.

A lot of people have the means and are fortunate enough to be able to leave or have already left. Those that can't or don't want to need to rise up. I don't know what that entails or how it can be done. I'm not smart enough or have the right connections, but there are enough decent people left to take action and say enough is enough.
Like I said, I'm not sure what that means but the good people of BR need to take back what is theirs or at least give it their all trying.

If he’s reading this, I’d happily donate to the cause and hundreds others here alone would too.

Good, the more national attention gets placed on the crime at LSU and across Baton Rouge, the more Tate and others will be motivated to demand actual fricking change. I really hope and pray this becomes a turning point for Baton Rouge.

Exactly this!! Whatever the hell it takes. I hope that sorry-arse bitch mayor is feeling serious stress from the pressure.

I don’t live there anymore but my brother and sisters still do and I still love to come visit and go to LSU games too. It breaks my heart to see what my hometown has become. I despise that woman with a white-hot heat.

That was me and you can’t donate to a specific reward. Can only donate to their general fund.

Wow, Did this case inspire the outrage we are seeing now? Mother killed and child shot during robbery for a TV?!

It absolutely did. It was horrific. The guilty party was found and sentenced to life in prison. The outrage seems greater now because of the pattern of inaction city officials have become known for. The likelihood of a homicide being solved in BR today is exponentially lower.

The Shed is putting up $10,000 but to my knowledge there’s no donation medium set up to increase that. I’d love there to be though. We need to raise $250,000 for the reward and I have zero doubt the OT can make that happen if given the opportunity.

I agree. Let’s do this.

I guarantee if this starts circulating amongst the students and students parents it will blow up. They want this solved too and that’s a huge population of motivated people.

how will 1 murder change a city? I hate what has become of BR but wasn't there an LSU student killed last year even closer to campus...just south of Nicholson

I just called CrimeStoppers to ask again and was told to call back later because the director is busy.

Because most others are not random and usually the result of some kind of revenge or drug related issue. This one was completely random and brings things to a new level.

Crime stoppers is a joke. I called them with specific name address etc of a person they were looking for, but no one ever answered. I called no less than 10 times different days to only listen to phone ring on and on.

is there actually any incentive for the police even with a reward offered?

The reward money doesn’t go to police who solve the murder. It’s to incentivize the public who may know info to come forward. If their tip leads to the conviction of the killer, they get the money.

Man, my kid is 16 and looking at colleges. I attended LSU, my parents attended LSU, my grandparents too. I'm not sure I want to turn him loose in Baton Rouge anymore.

ETA - this is not an over-reaction to this one incident. BR changed after Katrina for the worse and it has continually gone downhill thanks to those in charge that do nothing to stop it.
