Most of the criminal defense attorneys I have spoken with (not about this specific case) generally don't want to actually know whether their client committed what they're being accused of (when its in dispute at least). In their words, their job is to ensure that the prosecution proves its case beyond a reasonable doubt--not to establish innocence.
