Right there with ya. I have MSY-ATL-DCA-CVG-ATL-MSY this week.

Good news is I start at home so I can just sit tight and watch before leaving home.

Damn that sucks. Adoption agencies are always looking to bilk. Looks like they will get more chances.

Adoption is highway robbery.

You are the one that needs to educate yourself. You are only partially correct. Flight crews and drivers can stop their clock. But they would still have to get in full break time before regaining full duty time. Delta is a 24/7 operation. They have stand-by crews. Not to mention all of their feeder partners.

Why are you so angry? The OP started this thread abusing his caps lock key. I only pointed out flights are currently suspended not canceled.

You came at me in a very passive aggressive manner suggesting I don't know how the FAA works. Then for some unknown reason you are bringing up DOT HOS regulations.

Now you're jumping on Larry, who is one of the most kind hearted people that post on this board.

Let me talk to you in the same manner you choose to post in.

Do you know me?

Do you have any idea I'm a multi-award winning poster as voted for by the people?

What is your medallion status?

Thanks and have a great day.

The govt has strict rules on airline crewmembers and truckers and anybody else who moves shite from point A to point B. If their clock starts and they cannot fly their first leg and they are fully scheduled even if they fly the first leg 5 hours later they aren't flying their last leg. Even if they fly there whole schedule today moved back 5 hours they are not starting tomorrow when they are scheduled.

Actually the way it works is pilots are allowed a 14 hour duty day, 10 of which can be actual flying. The 14 hour clock starts the minute the show up to the airport and of course ends exactly 14 hours later. However, the last flying must begin at least 30 min after the start of the 14 hour clock and be done at least 30 min prior to that 14 hour clock ending. The ten hours worth of flying can be done anytime within in that 13 hour window. Flying time starts as soon as the airplane door is closed for pay reasons(this is why pilots have no problem sitting on the Tarmac for 4 hours if there's a delay instead of offloading). So, any pilot that came into work this morning has already started his 14 hour shift regardless of any delays and will have to be off duty in 14 hours. This obviously causes an issue later in the day when Delta has to find pilots for the currently delayed flights and the flights scheduled later tonight. Now, you may ask, why don't these pilots just stop the 14 hour clock, go home and come back when the delay is over? Well, the answer is that there must be at least a 10 hour rest period between duty shifts regardless of the length of the shift. Doesn't matter whether it was 1 hour or the full 14, he is required by law to go home or to the hotel for a minimum of 10 hours before reporting back for duty.

There, now everyone is educated.

Is Comair or Endeavor or any of Delta's other feeder/regional airlines being impacted?

If not, some people flying Delta may be ok.

I'm flying out of George Bush right now, and it's a nightmare. Thankfully I'm flying United but wow is all I gotta say.

They don't have anywhere near enough pilots and planes to cover all of them not moving for several hours. The original guy I replied to was one of those Internet no problem guys that minimize everything. It was pretty logical since he was presenting himself as a font of all knowledge to ask him about his familiarity with the subject.

I used to work in aircraft scheduling. I didn't build our optimizer but I made it work the way it was designed to.

Our crew rules were undoubtedly different but time is time. As soon as their first bank of flights moves into their second they are erred.

I was hoping Wilbur gt Wright would lend me some of his knowledge.

I still don't understand why he went crazy.

Well YOU keep minimizing everything and HE made their optimizer work the way it was supposed to. If you can't understand why he was max-triggered, I am out of peace-keeping solutions.

For EVERYONE'S info...Delta has lifted the 'ground-stop' and their twitter account says "Remain Calm, All Is Well".

But life is STILL over for all of us.

This is probably my 3rd greatest fear in life. Sitting on an airplane, just stuck. #1 Is pooing on the back of my shirt and #2 is older Asian ladies.

I guess I'll be the first to say it. I doubt both of these (SW and Delta) were computer "glitches". I'm thinking this is more of a terror prevention tactic.

A few years ago, I gained some cool insight on how airlines roll when possible terror threats pop up and this sounds familiar.
