may be one going up on Airline in Gonzales too near the Malco cinema.
i'd be cool with Aldi there, but i still want another Trader Joe's... hate having to drive deep into BR all the time to get the stuff my wife and I really enjoy there...

You need to get all up in that Ozempic thread.

They could use another Trader Joe's location in Baton Rouge somewhere. The one on Perkins is way too crowded.
Agreed. One on the total opposite side of town like Jones Creek or Old Jefferson

I could actually see that working pretty well - like Jones Creek around Tiger Bend or Coursey. Maybe Highland at I-10 somewhere.
Drawing the suburban white women out there will make the Perkins location devoted almost entirely to the granola people and LGBT types though.

even this would be better, in terms of location, for me, so i'd be okay with that

Those Mama Cozzi pizzas from Aldi are an AMAZING value.

Shout out to the poster who recommended the red bull knockoff sold there. It's legit.

I really like Aldi. Great products and cheap prices.

Went into an Aldi for the first time yesterday, in DeKalb, Illinois.
It's mostly off brand stuff. Not really my thing.
Prices on meat and poultry were no better than I can find elsewhere, and the selection was minimal.
Won't be going back.
Now the Hy-Vee right down the street? I really like it. Good selection and prices are very reasonable.
What I can't understand is how Jewel-Osco stays in business. Their prices are higher than a Safeway in Silicon Valley. Just insane.
As far as Schnucks goes....the verdict is still out. Probably the worst organized supermarket I've ever been too.
But they have Bourbon Ridge ham in the deli. That's a major plus.

Crazy a grocery can have such a footprint in South Louisiana with Rouses everywhere.
Are the prices that much lower and product that much better people are choosing a European store over one from the area?

These are the national grocer rankings, lads:
1. Trader Joe's
2. ALDI
3. Fresh Market
4. Wal-Mart
5. Target
6. Whole Foods

They do have lower prices and they are generally one of the nicest and cleanest of the discount grocery stores. They also put an emphasis on fresh food and most don't have a lot of frozen foods.

Both Trader Joe's and Aldi set the pace for low carb options. They're both aggressive in giving cool new items a shot with the consumers

Aldi said it wants to open 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028, investing $9 billion on new locations.
Usually this kind of expansion in that short amount of time results in some missed expectations and eventually some store closures.
So far the locations around me seem to be doing very well though.

I used to go to that Texas Roadhouse in Sycamore and that exact Hy-Vee during the pandemic when Cook, Cane, and DuPage counties had crazy lockdowns. We were living in Geneva during that debacle, and Sycamore/DeKalb were a fairly easy drive to make. You are right that it's a damn good store. I also really liked the newer Jewel Osco in Elburn.
You'd be amazed at how much you'd crave some sense of normalcy when you get everything delivered and the local restaurants in your county have to do takeout only. That little Hy-Vee and a couple of the restaurants out there helped get us through the worst of the Covid lockdowns. They were shining beacons on the hill for us when we really needed to just do something that wasn't in our house or the park next to our house. Those businesses never seemed as strict as the places in Geneva, St. Charles, Aurora, Elgin, Naperville, etc.
ALDI is a good discount store if you are not in the proper state of mind to handle the clientele at Wal Mart. That's me more and more as I get older.

They are very similar to Rouses in Louisiana. They don't really try very hard in their older stores. The best management and employees seem to be placed at their new locations.
I don't really get it other than they are a Chicago staple and they've long since procured the best real estate. Mariano's was pretty nice but far more rare. The locals were mad when Kroger bought them out, but I thought it was a pleasant experience and their prices were very close to the must crappier Jewel Osco.

They were popular when we lived in Memphis but I don't remember much about them other than their store designs were slightly different than the Krogers.
Then Kroger bought their Memphis area stores probably around 2012 or so. Kroger transitioned them and the rest of their local stores into what you'd expect from a major grocery chain that had a near monopoly in that local market. Kroger in the mid south is sort of like Jewel Osco in Chicago.
It's odd because some Krogers in other markets are legitimately good stores. I am anticipating that Rouses in Louisiana eventually gets bought out by Kroger or Publix.

Am I the only one that was extremely disappointed with Aldi?

It's just a discount grocery store with a lot of private label stuff and fresh food. It's welcome competition and they are generally clean and efficient.
Beyond that...not much else to expect.
