So you are saying kids can never be present when adults are having a beer or two?
Some people actually think like that.
It blew my mind when I first moved to Dallas. Went to the Balloon Festival cause we were looking for something to do one weekend. Wandered around for about 30mins looking for the beer booth. Finally I asked another vendor where the beer booth was and he looked at me like I was an alcoholic and told me that this was a family event and no alcohol was sold. I was disappointed to say the least
When I tell co-workers that every grade school fair in La has a beer booth and it wouldn't be uncommon to see a priest pouring beers from a keg, they look at me in disbelief.
Alcohol is banned in all public parks too, so no having a BBQ or picnic at a place like Audubon or City Park with an ice chest of beer either. It's insane. I don't have to be plastered, but I'm an adult and like having a beer or two on weekends at events

Definitely depends on the school. St. Catherine, St. Angela etc... Not too trashy. Any Catholic School on the Westbank or in Kenner? Probably pretty trashy

Great idea have the adults have a few drinks, but does everyone then just call Uber to get home?

Look up the demographics, socioeconomic stats, and real estate prices in Old Metairie can get back to me on that.
The whole point is teaching kids that drinking in a social setting and being responsible about it is a good thing.

Who are you to tell them how to parent? They’re perfectly capable of driving their kids home after an afternoon of drinking. Uber is for Puritans.

Rather teach my kids that they don’t have to drink booze at every single social setting.

Children shouldn’t be around adults binge drinking. Sets a really bad example.
Not the topic. Having 2-4 beers over a few hour period at a gathering is different.
Getting sloshed and hammered in front of them is bad. Frankly sitting at home drinking watching wheels of fortune. Those are bad examples. Not showing a kid that a few beers or a glass of wine is a better example, as it shows proper drinking behavior. Unless you are asian, and one beer has you all droopy red faced.

Dear baby Jesus,
Please make Fewer Kilometers' daughter come home from her first semester at college six months pregnant with no idea who the father is because she let six guys run train on her after she got drunk at a party because her dipshit father never taught her how to drink responsibly.
P.S.: If you could make it fraternal twins of two different races to maximize the shame factor when Fewer Kilometers has to explain to people that his twin grandkids have different fathers because everyone got a turn, that would be even better.
Amen.

Or we can have a few beers or a glass of wine over a two hour period and be perfectly fine driving a few miles home.

You're wearing a name tag, aren't you. Working on a Sunday, posting during your cigarette break on your cracked-screen iPhone 3. I know life has you down man, but don't take it out on others. There's a reason the assistant manager keeps you away from working the register and interacting with the customers. Just take a breath.

You ever try to go to a 1 year old Bday party without booze? No thanks
My girls 2nd birthday party was at our house. Mostly family that came and a few good friends. I told them the mini fridge was stocked and they all knew where I kept the bourbon. And I’m an equal opportunity host so I had some white wine chilled for the ladies. I was probably the one the most drunk, but it was my house and I didn’t have to drive anywhere when it was over. We hung out in the yard and I grilled for 30 people. Wouldn’t have been the same if we were all standing around watching 2 year olds play in a bouncy house for an hour.

I mean...as long as parents aren't getting trashed at a kid's bday party, who cares if an adult has a couple drinks to socialize?
Oh so now I can’t get trashed and black out at toddler parties??? I thought this was America

It was awesome. It was one of her cousins that cooked. It’s a side business he has. He has the setup for parties, etc. Her family insisted people take to go plates as well full of street tacos. Best 1 year old bday party I’ve been to, lol.

I even found the younger the kids the more adults drink as the party is almost more for them. As they get older fewer parents show up and I think is more of a party for the kids; however, all the parties I go to that are at bowing alleys or where there is a bar, the adults are drinking.

I serve some alcohol at our kids birthday party to be able to come down from all the coke.

This is the only gripe I've got. We just gonna condone drinking and driving?
If anything at all happens, your fault or not, you are absolutely fricked. Such a huge liability to drive after drinking anything.

My now ex-wife proceeded to get shitfaced on daiquiris at my goddaughter’s 4th or 5th birthday party once, so I’ve been against alcohol at kids’ parties for a while now.
But hey, if you wanna be trashy, go for it.
Sue me.
