This new bidding process basically gave the winner of the design (10% of the project) free reign to charge what they pleased over the remaining 90%.

It's absolutely insane. Mee Maw is a big fan of it though.

$209 per month
x 12 months
x 4,000 inmates

$10,000,000 per year
x 100 years

$1,000,000,000 cost

So if it will last 100 years, I think that $209 per month is somewhat reasonable..

I’ll put my bid in for $995,000,000

State construction projects are the MIC of Alabama. So much grift and back door money it’s not even funny. About 25% of that $1B will end up in private pockets.

It’s like this everywhere. Politicians in general are pieces of shite.

I mentioned in another thread, and was downvoted mercilessly, but AL is not a conservative state. It’s a big govt state.

That actually sounds like a decent price (per inmate) currently.

The new LA women's prison was $150 million for 138 beds and they still had to VE out some auxiliary type buildings to get there.

Yet this type of corruption is just accepted, here and nationwide.

They cry, but we can’t do anything about it. Right.

$1.08 billion price tag, will house 4,000 inmates upon completion.
You could build each of them a $270k house for that
Would that it was that easily done (just building each of them a $270k house).

It’s staggering the amount of resources society is forced to commit to prevent a small minority of people from completely ruining what would otherwise be a wonderful existence for ALL of us*.

*Those of us with impulse control and who respect the rights of others have to be protected from the POSs out there.

They all are these days as far as I can tell. Tennessee is much better ran than Alabama from my experience.

. Our school budgets are larger than municipal budgets in many cases. We overspend for everything. Overregulation is expensive

How much of that is going to consultants who happen to be relatives of state lawmakers?
