i don't think segregation is the variable creating those social ils

I'm still a bit fuzzy on how this has led to the complete and utter breakdown of the black family, widespread drug addiction, and the over 70% of children being born to unwed mothers. All of these things have far more to do with the failing schools in AL. All of them also have approximately 0 to do with persecution of the black race by anyone other than itself.

You take a group of people put them in an area with limited resources and crime, high infant mortality rates, disease, poverty, ignorance, and hunger will soon follow.

Your disdain and hatred for White America will make it challenging for you to make any changes.

If that's really what you want.

but black americans, when facing real segregation, had lower crime, more married, fewer children born out of wedlock, and more educated children

i'm not denying that this circumstance existed. i'm saying it did exist, it was horrible, and somehow many social-cultural factors have gotten worse after the elimination of those constraints

The problem black people on this board (and other educated black people that have their shite together) have with topics like these are that outside of your family you are limited in what you can do to make the major changes needed in the “black community”. It’s a very frustrating to hear people talk so negative when you know you are out there in the front lines do all that you can do to make a difference. People who love to bring up all of the negativity seem to forget about those putting in the work. They also don’t understand how tough of a task it is to fix these problems. But, I guess that's why they say life is unfair...

No but you could get rid of that smug attitude as if blacks are solely responsible for the position they are in and whites built their own wealth fair and square

so all white people are wealthy? who is painting with the broad brush now?

I can't think of one nation that the people that are wealthy didn't do things to step over others to gain that wealth and power. Do you know of such a place?

that's why i said initially it's a cycle

the real solutions are scary and potentially terrible. i mean we're literally talking about things like child removal/replacement and stripping unqualified parents of their parental rights. that's an ugly reality

look i fully agree. that's why i talk about this in terms of culture (and remind white people our trash is growing reaallllyy fast)

Congrats now tell me how segregation stopped your grandfather and father from buying a house in a certain area because of their skin color.

Grandfather died young from basically working his arse off. Dad was in the army and lived on bases until retirement. That side of my family is Irish fresh off the boat in the early 1900s. YOUR family has probably been here longer than mine.

The Fair Housing Act has been the law since 1968, that's 47 years. How does that affect success of blacks at all much less in 2016?

The world doesn't owe anyone anything. But what it has is there for the taking. You just have to set your priorities and work hard.

What do you think the answer is? What is it going to take for blacks to achieve success in this country in your opinion?

The fact you won't specify which Asian people had it super easy let's me know you don't know what you are talking about.

Hmm ok.

The Chinese,Japanese, and Koreans. I mean for decades we pretty much barred any Chinese from coming here. When these groups got here they were pretty much shite on left and right.

Like SFP said, now these groups are at the forefront of everything. They are a remarkable group of people who seem to excel even when being held back.

Why does the comparison even need to be brought up?

He and 805 seem like good people. I think both are educated...but for some reason they feel like they have to defend other black people that haven't made it in this country.

In an area? And how are these "areas" created?

hunger

Hmm that's an interesting one. who gets all the food stamps?

I have had this exact conversation with some black parents in our part of town. Except they tend to get mad about it quicker and start dropping N bombs.
I don't know how to fix it fast though. It took the Democrats two to three generations to get blacks back on the plantation. They've been working at it since 1964.

I was talking more of a Civil War proposition (good blacks vs. bad blacks) and just blood and guts everywhere. I like your idea better ( ) but It may sadly have to come down to mine.

What about the Vietnamese. They came here just over 40 years ago and have done very well for themselves. Amazing considering they fled a war torn country and didn't speak English.

old black men dropping N-bombs is one of my favorite things, esp if sheltered white friends of mine are around (they get scared)

i mean the cycle is bad decision makers being allowed to make bad decisions via government subsidy

when they have kids, they can only pass down knowledge of that culture (both making bad decisions and being saved by government)

you can break that cycle by removing kids from that environment and destroying that culture entirely and i don't know how else to do it

the other option could be shaming of that culture (which is possibly less likely than child removal )

it's not the money

Click on 'Rank' to get the worst Alabama schools 1st.
Click on 'Rank' again to get the best Alabama schools 1st.

Worst Schools:
84-99.5% on free lunch program
13-17 student teacher ratio

Best Schools:
0-48% free lunch (the 48 is an aberration of course)
12-19 student teacher ratio

Build all new schools, hire twice as many teachers, do whatever the hell you like, but until the culture in their family and community changes, nothing else will.

This has NOTHING to do with funding or money or efforts by the state, but EVERYTHING to do with the culture and family of the poor children. Yes, I have great sympathy for these poor kids who have very, very little chance of breaking out of the horrible environment in which they grow up, but the only way to change that is for the members of THEIR community to change, which I don't see happening as long as media and black leaders continue to blame everyone but those responsible.
