Are you kidding me? Chemical castration has two major issues:

1: It isn't permanent. What good is punishment for something like this that doesn't scorch the earth? Some liberal judge will eventually allow discontinuation of the "castration" and they'll be back to what they were before. Permanent castration would be better and perhaps result in the suicide of the pedophile. Win Win.

2: Is it painful? Doesn't sound like it. Punishment for pedophiles should be excruciating.

The whole concept of chemical castration (unless it uses corrosive chemicals) is worthless.

I don't get the bill. You could surgically remove their nuts and it wouldn't stop them.

Sure, it'll lower their sex drive. But I'm not sure how much sex drive has to do with being a pedo

I doubt the constitutionally of this bill. SCOTUS struck down an Oklahoma law in 1942 that castrated “habitual criminals” and recognized a fundamental right to procreate.

A waste of chemicals.

Two bricks should get the job done; reapply as necessary.

This is flagrantly unconstitutional, unfortunately.

No doubt it will be challenged by the usual suspects.

Depends.

I know a guy in jail for sleeping with 17 year old from tinder who lied about her age. The court saw the text, saw her tell him she was 21, and even knew she had a fake ID.

He still went to prison.

That guy shouldn't have this done...no.

Guy who rapes young kids? frick that..just kill the piece of shite he doesn't deserve to live.

has always amazed me the extreme lack of state or federal punishment for convicted pedophiles

I think some of it has to do with the fact that the vast overwhelming majority of pedophiles were also abused as a child too.

Did you miss the part about this being carried out on perps whose victims were 13 and under?

Good plan. Probably the only way to cure them if there is even such thing as a cure.

do you upvoters not comprehend unintended consequences? Surely you're all a bunch of oblivious kids. It's nice you want to curb pedos, but it's sad you think this is actually about pedos.

Maybe, but does this apply if you force others to foot the bill?

I wonder how they would have voted if they had been able to see the future?

I'm no lawyer so maybe I am way off base here, but there are already several states with chemical castration programs including California and Florida. California was the first to pass one in 1996.

Chemical castration treatment is defined in the bill as: “The receiving of medication, including, but not limited to, medroxyprogesterone acetate treatment or its chemical equivalent, that, among other things, reduces, inhibits, or blocks the production of testosterone, hormones, or other chemicals in a person’s body.”

Too easy. Chop their dicks off.

McMartin preschool case. Satanic ritual panic. Ex-spouse gins up charges to get custody. Wrongful charges and convictions in this area are not uncommon.

In the event of a wrongful conviction, make it fair. The lying witnesses and the prosecutor will be sterilized, and the innocent defendant gets all of their assets.

The way they keep dumping Round-Up and Prozac into the drinking water, everyone will be androgynous, sexless zombies pretty soon anyway.

Well for 1. It would be part of their release agreement to keep taking it. Drug tested and if failed they go back to jail.

Painful? they would have served their time ....but I'm not opposed to pain for sex offenders either
