This is sort of a political topic, but it is also of general interest so I chose to post it here. Mods can move to the Poli Board if necessary.

Obviously, this is more a shot at pro-life people than anything.

quote:

MONTGOMERY — State Rep. Rolanda Hollis (D-Birmingham) on Thursday filed a bill that would mandate every Alabama man to undergo a vasectomy within one month of his 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever comes first.

Democrats in the Alabama legislature last year brought up the possibility of introducing such a bill during the abortion debate on 2019’s HB 314, known as the Human Life Protection Act.

“Under existing law, there are no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men,” states the introduction to Hollis’ new bill, HB 238.

In some neighborhoods that would result in a required vasectomy before the male is 18.

So we can’t tell them what to do with their bodies but they can castrate men all willy nilly?

Why would a Democrat want to restrict multiple chillren?
Seems like that's taking away future votes for them

So a democrat is wanting the state to be able to dictate a person's choice whether or not to procreate. I guess she would also have no issue with women being forced to have their tubes tied once they have a certain amount of children? Right?

If you cannot financially support yourself or your family, maybe. Decrease the burden on the welfare state would be a solid argument.

Blanket decision that after 3 kids or age 50? Hell no. If I want to have more than 3 kids and can support them all that’s my business, the government can frick off.

If you’re on welfare, they should offer $10k for an irreversible vasectomy.

I think she is trying to make the “point” that if there are anti-abortion laws in Alabama, there should be laws against a man’s reproductive rights. Alabama passed a law last year that largely limits abortion in Alabama. They passed said law for the purpose of trying to start a legal battle to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Instead of that, how bout we tie the tubes of any female at any age on welfare after 1 child. Even Better, if you on welfare to start with no kids, 1. give them free birth control 2. don’t cover the birth of the kids or their upbringing

I've always said if you are on some sort of government assistance or medicaid and had 2 kids with that assistance. Male and female get the fixing

Wouldn’t the logical point be to make a vasectomy illegal and not mandatory?

This appears to the Democrat's response to the Alabama anti-abortion law that went through last year.
