WHNT TV link with footage of the boat's shreded hull on the bow (Facebook link)
Video shows just how bad the crash was. Clearly the bass boat hit the other boat and flew over the top of it taking out the motor and driver's side power pole

Does anyone know who actually died? Was it the guide customers or the mlf fisherman?

Saw a video on FB from one of the local news stations reporting from the scene. They didn't say in the news report, but a few people commenting on the post said the MLF fisherman had non-life threatening injuries. Fatality was a customer on the guide's boat

I've never understood why the Bassholes drive so crazy trying to get to their "spot".
Funny you say that, fishing a 60 boat tournament we get to our spot and second cast catch a 4lber, boat pulls up at the spot and say's "you're fishing in our spot" told him he needs get a faster boat.
Stayed in said spot all day, took first and lunker. Came home with a 2,500 dollar check.

Fishing tournaments have time limits, so the time going to and from their spots is less time with a line in the water.
There is a tournament that leaves out of Canal Bank IIRC on Wednesday afternoons and they are all in a massive rush to get to where they are going. There is one old boat that has maybe 1/4 of the HP of the average boat and he is always loafing along. I have no idea who he is but every time I see him I am rooting for him.

Saw a few pics on the Canal Bank page last week. One dude is fishing out of a restored mid 80's or so Terry bass boat with an old merc on the back.

Almost guaranteed that is the guy I have seen.

Prediction: the guy driving the bass boat about to be charged with manslaughter or the boat equivalent of vehicular homicide.

How could he not?

Wes Logan smoked a dock in a BASS tourney last year. He had a 'leash' on his motor which prevents the motor from flying in the boat if you hit something. My next boat will have one.
It's a must have to Toledo Bend, and D'arbonne for that matter.

Wife’s cousin fishes the circuit. My heart dropped when I saw this earlier. Thankful he’s not involved but awful for the families of the deceased.

If you watch the video in the OP someone in it states that they have video of the wreck, and it was turned over to ALEA. The guy claims he saw the video and said the MLF boat hit the side of the other boat and launched. It would explain the damage to the front and rear of the MLF boat. You will get damage on the front as you launch up and over the boat and sadly striking people on that boat, as well as damage on the backside as it comes down on the other side of the stationary boat.
If there truly is video, as the guy claims he saw, of running wide open and hitting a stationary boat, well, there isn’t much wiggle room. I’d wait and see if it pans out like that that guy claims. Regardless, it is a sad deal all around.
