I'm not taking the defendant's side or position but to answer your misunderstanding the First Amendment of the US Constitution provides a fundamental right to life. This fundamental right is extended to protection from the states via the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. This should answer your misunderstanding.

I don't have a problem with this guy's execution, but if not for the opportunity to exhaust all possible avenues of appeal, quite a few innocent people would have been wrongly executed. Since 1971, 164 people have been released from death row because they were later fond to be innocent. Average time from being sentenced to death to being found innocent 11.1 years.

The fact that this guy was allowed to live for 24 years after he raped and killed a 15 year old girl is utterly pathetic

Should’ve been executed with wild bore in short order.

Ok, "found to be Innocent" is one thing, trying to find technicalities, etc. is something entirely different.

What pisses me off is how much tax money these lowlifes eat up for 20 years on death row...

The guy didn't deserve shite and should have been killed a long time ago, but it doesn't make much sense why they wouldn't allow this when they allow priests.

Oh, they are often completely exonerated. DNA shows someone else did it, etc.

People don’t trust government to fill potholes or haul trash, and they rant about stupid judges and juries in personal injury cases. But they assume prosecutors, judges and juries on criminal cases are 100% right, when time after time it is proved that is false. They are people just like us, and some of them make mistakes, are not very smart, or are even crooked. It happens.

It's morons like this one here why I don't ever want to rely on a jury.

Strapped to a gurney in the death chamber, Ray was asked by the warden if he had any final words. The inmate said an Islamic statement of his faith in Arabic.

Good thing they killed him before his bomb went off.

The bigger question to me is...why is there a chaplan on staff? I get the military having religous personel as who knows when and where members of military may meet their maker. A prison, however, should allow the inmate to bring in a priest, chaplan, imam, rabbi, shaman etc. and have their arse in the room next door. Just my .02.

I suppose that the chaplain on staff is also used for general population inmates.
They need rehabilitation, as well. And, regardless of anyone's views on religion, I imagine that these prison chaplains are very instrumental in whether or not a future released prisoner can make it on the outside. Gives them hope instead of despair.

Neither is Islam. Muhammad isn't the Muslim god. God is the Muslim god. The same god Christians pray to.

Not to hijack the thread, but we should agree to disagree here.

Bc frick him, that’s why. He’s not worthy of an exception to any rule. And it wouldn’t be a good thing for society to have an Imam on the prison staff.

Yeah this is the only legit reason to oppose the death penalty. It’s reason enough.
