Are you dumb? That’s what dogs do. The shithead chihuahua my ex wife “fostered” did it to me today when I poked my daughter to tell her to get up for dance. I’ve known that dog for five years, but he’s apparently the owner of my daughter. Yet he still wanted the pets.

Call her bluff.

Is she even capable of hiring a lawyer, paying for it, and following through?

Answer this one simple question for me-

What state are you in, and is the dog chipped?

If she’s in financial trouble offer her $250-$300 for it

She’s had serious mental and financial issues and you’re worried about her actually hiring an attorney? Do any of you actually think before posting stupid shite?

As others have said, please make an offer to buy him. I am almost sure you will be on the losing end of the argument if you do not get a signed bill of sale or other signed paperwork, and she becomes crazy 6 months or 2 years later.

I am sorry to hear the dog ran away. Ask her to help pay for lost signs.

Make sure he’s not left outside where she can poison the dog.

No, I am not.

herding dogs tend to grasp onto certain people and will defend those people relentlessly. The OP has a Shepard (herding dog).

So you are contradicting yourself. It doesn’t like you until it realizes it’s you

Twice in this thread you have referred to a dog as your son. You weirdos that think your pets are your children need therapy.

I have spent 2k on doctor bills, grooming, housing arrangements etc to get him straight.

Sounds like you bought the dog to me.

Tell her she will owe recompense in full before any return of the animal is discussed

I'm no attorney, but if it were me I wouldn't offer to buy the dog because it would indicate you don't own it. I also wouldn't ask for repayment of the bills because if she says ok, you are screwed.

I'd say that she abandoned the dog, agreed to give it to you, and that you have adopted the dog and it's a member of your family now. I'd also put into writing that since you've had the dog it became obvious that the dog was abused and that you could never return a dog into that environment.

I had a similar situation but the woman left her cat with me for a year and a half, then turned up. Because her parent is my SO, i relented. Never again.
