Doing family Christmas this afternoon, and grandma pulls out her phone and shows us all a clearly AI video showing a dog saving a a man from a bear attack. We told her it is fake, but she couldn’t comprehend how AI can do that.

I have a keen eye for AI content now but older generations are falling for this and as it progresses it will only fool more people.

We need to pass a common sense law that all AI generated videos and pictures must by law have a clearly visible watermark, and those removing watermarks is punishable by law.

Then pass legislation that requires social media companies to require any AI content distributed on their platforms to have watermarks or they get penalized.

I have no issue with her liking a harmless video but it’s concerning they can be so easily fooled with AI content.

Where do you draw the line? For realistic things?

If someone had made a movie, zero AI, that had a dog fighting off a bear, and she saw that clip and thought it was real...what's the difference?

There are plenty of non-AI videos of dogs fighting off bears.

Depending on how it was shot. If it was shot to look like real, and not in context, maybe.

It’s a good thing social media doesn’t have a negative impact on the younger generations. It’s only those stupid boomers and AI…

Yea it doesn't really matter what legislation you make. There will be foreign actors who don't give a shite what our laws say.

You'd also probably run into some sort of 1st amendment challenge somewhere that makes drafting effective legislation virtually impossible.

It's not dissimilar to the argument that laws don't stop people from committing gun crime, therefore gun control legislation really doesn't effectively hinder the types of people you don't want to have a gun.

Fake videos existed long before AI.

If the dog was a Chihuahua, it may not be AI. Those little bastards have a mean streak a mile long.
