Are you still near me? (SF) Because I might know the situation you are talking about.

Yes. And it's more than likely the same situation. I feel legit bad for people that live on the same street as that house.

It really is a shame people force you into a corner on a situation like this. I'd rather have a neighbor with 3 foot tall grass and 10 junk cars than an aggressive dog that they can't/don't control. Do what needs to be done.

I’ll somewhat disagree. I’ve owed many dogs and even a few pits. It’s the owners and not the dogs most times. None of my pits were like what your describing. I did have a Shepard mix that was just out of control.
If socialized properly they are good dogs. Sometimes nit.

We used to have an aggressive Rottweiler get out pretty often in our old neighborhood. This was a little more of a rural area and that thing lunged at my neighbor coming out of his house. He walked back inside and got a shotgun and started unloading bird shot on that dog from a distance. The owner fixed his fence after that

It really is. Just baffles me how someone knows they have an aggressive dog who can cause major bodily damage if it escapes, and doesn't care.

Had a neighbor that had a purebred Chow. A Pit Bull showed up out of nowhere one day and tried to attack my neighbors dog while we were in his driveway. Somehow that Chow absolutely mangled that Pit Bull. I mean gashed it up bad. I was shocked at the outcome the Chow barely had a mark on it and the Pit Bull hobbled off. Pit Bulls are such a trashy breed and so are their owners.

So are chows. They are angry MFers too.

Is he selling them?
Depending on your hood, the city may not allow that type of business to be run out of his house.

are there any local ordnances against animal breeding or permits required?

Going to explore that now with our homeowners association.
Something tells me his sales are all in cash though.

I would check local ordnances as well, more than likely your HOA prohibits.
I am sure he advertises some way. Facebook, instagram, etc... get screenshots if so

Sadly, I’ve been there with dealing with unleashed dogs in my neighborhood.
My dog was attacked twice while on a leash being walked by me.
I don’t know how you can hit the offending dog with bear spray and spare your dog once they engage. And unleashed dogs come fast.
For me a gun was not a good option because My dog was going nuts on the leash, the offending dog was darting very close to my dog and both dogs were running around my legs. I couldn’t get a safe shot making sure I avoided my leg and my dog and the neighbors who were coming to see what the ruckus was.
If my dog was not pulling so hard on the leash I could have gotten a better shot.
I then went with a machete. This was an ok option but when push came to shove and I went to stab the Pit bull in the chest the machete had more give and bend than I would have liked. It was able to penetrate the dogs sternum and the dog got the message and ran off but I felt the machete bend and almost snap and then I would have been in a bad place with a pissed off pit.
I now have what I feel is the ultimate anti-dog weapon.
A Eastwing Tomahawk. It is a solid piece of metal made like a large hammer with a tomahawk blade on one end and spike on the other. This has zero bend and zero give and will allow me to deliver blow after blow until the dog runs off or dies.

Link to tomahawk.
I put a rope around the wrist so if it slips out of my hand it will stay connected.
The main thing is training your neighbors to keep their dogs up. I had a few trashy neighbors who did not care if there dogs got out and terrorized others. But when the offending dogs started needing expensive vet bills the neighbors reinforced fences, and became much more careful.
I have not had a run in with an unleashed dog in over a year and I used to have them twice a week.
