I’m not familiar with the specifics of the project, but is it possible that this may have adverse effects on the Miss river and levees around BR?

I don't know. Sending this post to USACE in case they never thought of that.

A good 25% of that money will mysteriously disappear in to some politician's pocket never to be seen again.

I love my state but wouldn't move back to that banana republic corruption for anything.

This project was one of many proposed solutions suggested by the USACE after a nearly 1000 year flood event in the late 70's. It was proposed together with the Darlington reservoir as a means to minimize riverine flooding impact through the populated tri parish area of GBR.

The Darlington reservoir is not being built. The diversion canal alone will not achieve the same result that the canal and reservoir would have achieve together. Will it help? Yes, some. But only along the comite through Zachary, Central, and BR, then somewhat along the amite after the two rivers merge near hwy 190. Remember if the amite is still above flood stage at hwy 37, it will still flood along both sides all the way to lake maurepas.

Thank Edwin Edwards.

It will help a little but it wouldn’t have done much to lessen the flood in 2016.

Besides politicians (and maybe some land owners), did anyone want this project?

I’m curious if there has been any ecological concerns or impacts considered?

I am pretty sure companies have already been formed to serve as middle men in helping siphon money off. It's tradition.

Any chance this becomes like the Amite River Diversion Canal with housing, boat launches, camps, etc built alongside it?

Yes. Although it doesn't have a true outlet it will be more like False River type environment.
