I've read this theory before, but even if it were true then it would only add to the majesty and mystery of the liger. I still say it would win.

A Siberian Tiger has a bite PSI of 950. An African lion has a bite PSI of 691. The Tiger is bigger and stronger. It would destroy that lion unless the lion's bitches launched a sneak attack.
