The man basically hosts a modern day version of Roman animal/slave combat. I'm not surprised he's up to some shady shite.

Disclaimer: I enjoyed the modern day version of Roman animal/slave combat.

Meh

He's running the state pen and IMO doing a good job of it. Let him do what he wants.

Agree 100000000%. Cain knows how to run a prison. If there is one corrupt public figure I can look past, it's the warden at Angola.

What is the difference in the governor, insurance commissioner, warden being corrupt?

Look past? fricking really?

How far do I have to take the hypothetical before you say "he can't do that"?

And above- how about the Fire Chief from Plaquemine driving his kid to BR Magnet in his red fire department Tahoe? What a moron.

New legislation allows that and more

Homeuse means just that for anyone with a badge, dick, or gun.

What's the difference between the Warden and elected politicians who have a direct policy impact on my life? Gee I wonder.

I get your point, but in a state full of crooked politicians who feed at the public trough, the least offensive to me is some hillbilly warden who uses his position to make some money.
Plus I think Cain does a good job. DWI.

I'm trying so hard to read along and not comment but damn it's getting hard

I know a lot of people feel he does a good job running the prison and I won't disagree with that but a criminal is a criminal, no matter how well they do their job.

Others have said he is untouchable on the state level and while this may have been true in the past, I don't believe this is the case now.

Never trust anyone spouting all that sanctimonious evangelical bullshite. They'll rob you blind and screw your virgin daughters (or sons).

Well, there will be a new Governor soon. Let's see how long it takes to turn him Burl's way.

Burl is a Republican and has always had the support of Republicans in the state. From what im hearing he no longer does and our new Dem Gov isn't a fan of Burl

Angola was the bloodiest prison in America until Burl Cain took it over. Now it is one of the safer ones. I don't know if he's doing anything shady or not, but I don't feel sorry for any prisoners who may have been treated wrongly. Don't break the law and you will not have that problem.

I read it and I've visited the prison many times. I've also talked with quite a few trustees, guards, other wardens and supervisors in the prison.

I'm not saying that he's walked the straight and narrow because I don't know that. What I do have is my opinion on the climate of Angola. Every trustee that I spoke with said there are stick rules to follow. Follow them and all is good. There are rewards systems for good behavior, which most don't achieve. Prison should be a place that prisoners hate to go back to.

Remember, the ones in Angola are there because they can't obey the rules and laws of society. They need an iron fist to correct their actions and attitudes.

From talking to a few trustees, before Burl Cain took over Angola, a buddy system was required in the dorms at night. They slept with books under there shirts in case of shankings and one would stay awake and keep watch why the other slept. They would rotate doing this through the night. Cain separated the ones who didn't want to walk the tight line from those who did. This immediately made portions of the prison safer.
