if we had more of a standardized system that was more harsh towards people with violent histories or accused of violent crimes, people like Franklin wouldn't have wiggle room, and non-violent drug offenders could get out, creating less clogging of the system so that people like Franklin couldn't slip through the cracks

I was told by the SJW crowd that mandatory minimums were racist. Honestly, I just don't see how this is more of a bail reform issue more than an unaccountable activist judge issue. I understand you can fix it with minimum bail guidelines, but it seems like having some consequences for the judges should be a higher priority.

If only Trudy White had access to these advanced software systems she surely would have never reduced this guys bond. We are failing Trudy and we should put the blame on ourselves for this guys murder.

Only reason I noticed this was that it was a front page headline and I went to read the electronic version to see how they would frick this up.

I figured the fish wrap needed more eyeballs seeing exactly what it had become.

I don't know why people even read the Advocate. They can't get anything right, ever.

Not just that, their mobile app is practically unreadable. The pop up ads are ridiculious. You have to click off 5 damn ads just to read the article. It’s becoming like those stupid sites linked on FB that you have to click 15 times to read the Top Ten whatever...

Their editorial staff is either non existent or borderline retarded. I'm convinced these early 20s writers just type their work out on their phone then dump it directly to the server where it's immediately posted to the site.

Probably not far from the truth. It’s pretty much what their sports desk does.

the article is saying that if could reform the bail system, we would be able to keep guys like Franklin in jail, b/c we would have more time to spend to analyze his history and danger to society.

The article uses an extremely poor example to make their argument. Franklin's bail was high because of an extensive background of illegal activities, that's the system working as intended. White not only set bail obscenely low for someone of his background when he went before her, but then went back and lowered what someone else had set on subsequent charges.

I was in Ivar's a while back and ended up meeting the Online Editor from the Advocate. I said much of what you said here and he disputed the assertion. I brought up the site on my phone and pointed out not two but three glaring grammatical errors in the first story I clicked on. Dude was pissed and left the bar. Not going to lie, I was several drinks in and wasn't very diplomatic about it but it does piss me off.

It's just sloppy, especially for a news outlet that covers such a large chunk of the state's population. If you want to be taken seriously, you can't have simple grammatical errors getting through on an everyday basis.

The article was terrible primarily because it missed the point.

Cash bail is a stupid method of addressing whether individual liberties should be deprived during the innocent until proven guilty phase. If a defendant is determined to be at risk of not showing up for court or determined to be likely to commit new offenses while on bond, then order him detained WITHOUT bond.
