Advice? Senior dog suffering from arthritis

Hurts my heart to even type this. Our 13 year old lab has bad hip arthritis. As our vet eloquently put it, “ her hips are ate up with arthritis.” She still has a healthy appetite and is going to the bathroom and can rise to her feet. But she’s not comfortable. She pants a lot, licks at her paws and can only go a few feet then stops and limps pretty good.
I have her on gallaprant daily ( started a few days back) and she got her first librella shot last week. I don’t know what else to do to manage pain. Although her quality of life is declining she’s eating well and sleeping. Seems a bit early to think euthanasia. When she gets to that point or can no longer stand, I’ll have no other choice. When her time comes I wish she would pass in her sleep. However I know that’s not likely and I have some tough decisions to be made.
Any advice?

Dasaquin worked wonders for our old man for a long time.
We went to CBD when it got worse.
He finally let us know when it was time. He was a 16 year old GSP

My soon to be 14 year old dog has horrible arthritis, had to carry up stairs.
We put him on Cosequin, It took a few weeks 3-4, then we started to see a noticeable difference. He has been going up and down the stairs on his own for a few months now.

There are arthritis meds, check with your vet.

I know it's a hard decision, but if she's suffering and you can't get it under control I think it's the right decision. Just because she's eating and sleeping (things that are absolutely mandatory for survival) doesn't mean her QOL is good if she's in constant pain. I'm not saying put her down right now, but obviously explore whatever possible treatments you're able to, and if it's not helping then it might be time.
Sorry that you're going through this, it's a terrible terrible feeling I know

Yea he started her on gallaprant and a monthly shot of librella. I hope to see some improvement in a week or so. We will see

I gave my old pal CBD gummies for the last year of his life. I believe it helped him. He was a 15 year-old lab mix.

Just did the first Librela shot for our dog. Haven’t seen much difference but heard it can take 2-3 shots before noticeable benefit.

Give it time, she hasn't been on the meds long. Let it build up and see how she does. Don't be afraid to try a different combo if this one doesn't help. As long as she's eating, drinking, and is alert the ol' girl is still hanging in there.
It is always tough watching them get old. We just have to do our best for them.

CBD, diet changes to reduce inflammation (Google), and cosequin (sp?) helped ours.
It’s so hard to watch a dog with good attitude and energy not have the hips to live freely. So damn hard.

A quality Green Lipped mussel works great. My dog was holding up her leg and limping and after a vet cleared her of something other than arthritis or perhaps an injury playing I started her on it.
I use Four Leaf Rover GLM (quality products) and there’s actually a GLM product mixed with other stuff at Walmart called Yumove. My dog doesn’t limp anymore.

If she isn’t already on rimadyl, find yourself a new vet. My lab is 15 and has bad arthritis in her back legs and hips, but she is still able to get around pretty good, with a few occasional stumbles with the back legs.
She has had arthritis since she was 9 or so and we have been giving her dasuqin chews as well, which seem to help.

My Weimar was 16. Rear hips started going. I fought it for a while, then figured how selfish i was being. Woke up one morning and he had peed on himself on his bed. He couldn't get himself up to go out of dog door.
He gave me his life, his love, his support for 16 years. Most of all, he trusted me to treat him with respect. It was my turn to help him. He was too proud to wake up in piss.
I put him down that day and cried before, during, and after.
There is no easy way or "right" time. You'll beat yourself up if something else happens that hurts her more. Love her, respect her, and when your convinced, let her go.

You know what to do. Don’t make her suffer.

Fish oil - capsules from Costco, no enteric coating - did wonders for our similarly aged Aussie. We gave it in conjunction with Closequin, worked much better than Closequin alone. She would groan and struggle a bit when standing up or laying down. After fish oil, she stopped groaning altogether.
First few times, prick the capsule and squeeze a little oil out, doggo will start to think of it as a chew treat after that.

13 and hasn’t been through a lot of arthritis treatment, eating, drinking water, and happy. He does not need to make that decision yet unless the dog doesn’t respond at all to treatment.

When it's getting toward the end, Prednisone can buy her some extra quality months.

She was having a hard time tonight. Sleeping good now, but I’ve noticed she’s very restless in evenings. Going to discuss switching to carprofen and maybe tramadol with the vet. I’ll try to give it a few more weeks, God willing. I might even give CBD a try.

I always think pet owners tend to euthanize their pets too early.
Just my two cents.
And I have plenty of pets and gone through way too many pet passings to really count.
