They have water dishes that have a water tank
You fill the jug up (a few gallons) screw the dish on and flip the thing over
As the dog drinks from the dish water will gurgle in and refill the dish
But I think your dog is just a barker
And you should have him in the laundry room or let him run the house
Dog deserve more than you are providing at this point
I hope you change your plans

So, I have a real job, therefore I don’t deserve a dog?

‘ I have s job so can not have a dog’
I have a real dog
And trained my lab to chill and respect my house so he pretty much slept on my bed all day and we had a great life
You can have a job and a dog
But why not try to be responsible at both of them

I just got the dog on Friday. I haven’t had time to train it yet. This was the first day leaving it alone outside for more than 2 hours. I’ve had dogs before outdoors during the day and never have these problems.

You gave a lot of excuses
For poor planning and being a bad neighbor and tenant

Except it's not his laundry room , bath room or second bedroom. He's got a lease and a torn up room is going to probably lead to voiding the lease, damage deposit, etc.
A neighbor got an Aussie several years ago. That dog is big and loves to run. Not neighborhood three houses away running. more like two miles mid morning 'cause he enjoys it. Chanses his owner when the owner drives away without him (gives up about 3/4 of a mile and runs home through the woods. )
Now that the dog is five, his mid morning and late afternoon runs are about a mile or so each. Impressive dog to have that much energy in the middle of a Tennessee hot summer day.

I didn’t want to adopt a high-energy dog like an aussie in the first place, but I took the dog to help out a family friend that needed to find a home for it.

I really feel for you
You sound like a real nice person and someone doing a nice thing for everyone and the dog
I really do hope it works out for you and the dog
Hopefully it will be a minor break in time and the dog will get use to time alone and realize when you leave you will be back
He barks now cause he has anxiety and does not know your coming back
Hopefully y’all get through that quick and if able to find the person complaining explain so he will cut you some slack till things level out
I hope it all works out

You’re an LSU fan, right? Name him Corndog.

I have an Aussie. Best thing to do for now is the crate or a dog daycare. If crating, take him for a walk before you leave, throw the ball before you leave, when you get home, and just before he goes to bed (mine usually fetches for 10-20 min before getting tired). Do not leave him long enough to soil his kennel- this will cause massive problems down the road.
Look into these systems where you can interact with your dog through a screen and train him for gradually increasing time periods until he can handle the whole work day just alone in the house.

Also- are you friends with any neighbors? If my neighbor was in your situation, I wouldn’t mind taking the dog out midday until they could acclimate to a schedule.

This is why everyone should have a door camera
So you know which neighbors arse you need to go kick
I'd leave him outside again with plenty of water and see what happens

There are a million options. First, you’re going to have to make a conscious effort to exercise if several times a day. Walk or run before work. Aussies are very smart and have a ton of energy.
I’d crate it until you build a relationship with it... it’ll likely destroy your house if it has separation anxiety. Come home at lunch or hire a dog walker. Look into doggy day care.
Once you get to know each other, you can try outside for half days, crate for half days.
Heeding dogs can be a lot of work but if they’re not properly exercised, a total pain. Spend the time and money to make it work or return the dog. An Aussie is not the type of dog you can throw in the backyard.

Get a doggy door and let the dog be able to go inside and outside throughout the day.

He’s already crate trained and housebroken, but I’m just paranoid about leaving a dog alone in my house that long unsupervised, and I feel bad about leaving one cramped in a kennel all day. He’s trained to do it, but I don’t know if I like the idea of him getting zero exercise all day when he should have this huge yard to roam and play in.
He will be fine. He will just sleep all day long. As for exercise, if you have neighbors close enough to complain about him barking your yard isn’t large enough for him to roam and get his exercise.
Either put him in a kennel or leave him inside, but be sure to play with him/take him for a run every morning and every afternoon

3. Keep in kennel. Some places have people that you can hire to let your dog out or even walk once a day.
