Advice for Job Hunting in Atlanta, Georgia ?

Hey guys. I am looking for a new position in Atlanta, Georgia. Im gainfully employed, but i really like the Atlanta area. I believe thats where i want to settle down.
Im looking for electrical engineering or data analysts positions. Its seems really competitive, is that the norm.

Because a lot of folks when scanning stacks of resumes skip the out of state ones, unless position is offering relocation. Even if person isnt looking for it. Does it happen every time? no, but it does happen.

Definitely utilize LinkedIn and make sure your profile is set to "Open to recruiting." Look for staffing agencies located in the metro and connect with recruiters who, if they like you, will set up interviews with hiring companies.
Indeed.com and Glassdoor are also great tools to find open positions.
It helps if you already live here, but there are so many jobs in this booming city that it doesn't matter too much. Coke, Home Depot, Georgia-Pacific, and SunTrust (aka Truist) are always hiring.
I lost my job back in March and spent maybe a month and a half unemployed, which is nothing. It helps that I'm in supply chain which is probably the hottest field right now in this city.

Is it normal for highly in demand jobs to be competitive? No, I don't think it is. They usually pass those jobs out like candy.

If you’re a democrat then don’t we have enough problems with people like you around here, we don’t need anymore. If you don’t want any Atlanta Culcha then look at working anywhere north of I-20.

What is your degree in, what are you doing currently and how much experience do you have?
That’s what will dictate how competitive things are for you.
Also, where in the metro area are you thinking about living?

My problems with address sorting is that it discriminates based on factors outside the job seeker control.
If you live in a rural area, youre effectively screwed unless you know someone. You probably live in that because its a family home or its all you can afford.

I think he just means having a "local" address. Plenty of the jobs you'll be applying for Atlanta might not have Atlanta addresses and a huge percentage of their workforce probably won't either.

What is almost certainly going on is that employers will be concerned with your commute. When I moved here in 2006, I applied for a job at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. The job was downtown ATL by the dome (I think) and I lived way the hell out in northeastern Gwinnett county. The hiring manager was concerned about the commute, and rightfully so because it would have been terrible and increased my likelihood of quitting.
