I went to Barcelona last winter too. Great city, probably one of my top 3 in all of Europe. I did run into an LSU fan at a bar for the bowl game which was cool. He was an ok guy I guess, but his girlfriend was smokin.

Do two cities. Five days in one city Europe is a waste. I recommend, doing 2-3 in London, then 2-3 in Paris if you've never been to Europe.
Those are cities that everyone should see.

What didn't you see?
We're only doing two days in London and we'll hit Big Ben/Parliament, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Westminiter Abbey, Picadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, The Tower of London/Tower Bridge, and Harry Potter Studio Tour, with plenty of time for tea and crumpets.
Sure we could stay an extra day and hit a few museums or Harrods, but I'd rather spend that third day in Paris.

Barça and add Madrid in November FTW. Fly into one, take the train to the other and fly home out of the second city.
Not Dublin or London, Italian destinations would be the runners-up.

Right, but seeing an entire city isn't necessary.
Spending extra time in a place to see stuff that is further down on your list than you can see in a couple of days is a waste of time in my opinion, since cities in Europe are so close and you can easily go visit somewhere new.
If you spent a summer somewhere and didn't see everything you wanted to see, then you wasted a lot of time.

You're going for two days.. There is a difference between "hitting" all the big places just to say you went and actually immersing yourself into the city. What's the point of traveling all that way for a half assed trip?

I can and have.
It was a good day.
My wife and any of my kids could/would not like to do this for a whole day.
The OP has family going with him and the trip will have to be a compromise.

Not a half assed trip. We're going to do everything that's high up on our list, and spend the appropriate amount of time doing it. And very few museums are worth an entire day when you could be spending that time seeing the city and people. The Louvre is one of the only ones I can think of... and we have a whole day set aside for it.
I couldn't imagine spending a day going to a war museum when I could spend that day going to the Palace of Versailles.
Why would you fly all the way to Europe and see only one city when some of the other greatest cities in the world are just 2 hours away?

I have done all on your list. My favorite is Barcelona. My wife loved Paris the most (with Killarney, located SW of Dublin as a close second). I would stay away from there , or London/Paris due to the cold. A good option would be Rome. From there you can take high speed train to Florence for a day trip. You could do the fly into London and out of Paris using the Eurostar train, but considering the weather, it would be Rome or Barcelona for me. FYI ...Trevi Fountain in Rome is being refurbished. Just something to keep in mind. If you did Barcelona, you could take the AVE train to Madrid and fly out of there. I just got back from a trip that included all of these except Dublin. Barcelona has lots to do and the Prada in Madrid is worth a look. Honestly, it would be hard to go wrong with any of them. Have a safe trip and enjoy.
