I work with a high level manager who acts like a 12 y/o girl when he doesn’t get his way. He’s smart, but lacks foresight and organization and always leaves my team which supports his hanging because they can’t get their shite together.

We share a direct report, who is a brilliant guy, but he can’t control himself under stress either. They often end up butting heads, throwing fits and I’m left trying to get things done in spite of their ineptitude. I feel like their parent.

Anybody else have to deal with childish behavior from people who should know better?

Working with Democrats can be tough.

eta: sensitive folks here on the OT. I was clearly joking, as we all know Democrats don't work.

Sadly, all the time here at Kruger Industrial Smoothing.

Had it go down again yesterday on a group email between two people. They were fighting and basically waiting for someone to chime in taking their side. This time I ignored and deleted the email with no reply. Tired of it.

I guess my question would be are you angling to advance your status in the company? If you're one that can maintain a calm frame under pressure and you can lead those around you, you should be doing everything to earn a leadership position. Otherwise you're wasting your time there.

Wasn't there a dude that posted about just crying before a presentation at work? I cringe thinking about his story.

Was definitely one of the strangest things I've read on the OT. And that's saying something.

Look at the current crop of kids in colleges and high schools. This problem is only going to get worse. If they don’t exist already, certain rooms will be turned into safe spaces for pretty much everyone but the white male.

At every job I have ever had...... People are control freaks by nature.

It's not just kids.

There are definitely older adults who act like this that I find are often protected by things like "seniority".

I already have a leadership position in the company. Problem is that my DR, one of the previously mentioned, is the head of our department.

We’ve been back at school since August, and I’ve already had four of my female colleagues break down in uncontrollable crying over what I’d consider little to nothing.

Yeah, I interact with leaders and individual contributors at numerous large companies. Bad or immature behavior is not determined by age or gender. I find that sometimes older males have - - what i will call suboptimal behaviors- - that seem caused by testosterone or pride and enabled by their senior status (not necessarily rank) and/or “screw you money” in the bank.

In fact, based upon purely bad behaviors, i think i have observed that more in people closer to retirement than young people. Young people have this odd egalitarian thing where they want everything to be determined democratically, but they don’t exhibit as much passive aggressive or actively aggressive behaviors, IMO.
