We live in parish "A". Active church goers and support financially.

Our parish has a school which he can go to which is close to our house.

Parish "B' has a school as well, but the school is extremely close to the Mrs and I jobs...Also, close to my wife's parents and my parents homes as well.

I know active parishioners get first priority of admission to these schools, but what are the odds of them accepting another catholic kid from another parish?

ETA: I'm unfamiliar with crossing parish lines for school b/c when i was in catholic elementary school, kids from my area was given equal priority as in parish kids b/c the area where i grew up at did not have a church.

All depends on the school for acceptance but you’ll pay an out of parish fee for sure

If there's room after all their own parish's kids are taken care of and you're next on the list, they'll almost certainly take you. It's not as if you're a filthy Protestant. You'll almost certainly pay a surcharge for not being an active member of their parish, though.

It would be highly unusual for you not to be able to enroll your child in the school. They would have to be really overwhelmed with applications from active parishioners.

The reality is that most Catholic schools have large groups of kids that are either non-Catholics or non-participating Catholics, much less active Catholics from other nearby parishes.

Not necessarily. Some parish schools will grant you in-parish tuition if you are a
Financial contributor to another parish.

Can you tell us which diocese and which schools?

I’d guess that Sacred Heart is mostly out of parish students. I’ll check with my sister about the out-of-parish tuition. She sent her kids did there in the same situation.

I would imagine it would all depend on whether or not the school is at it's capacity or not.

This was a long time ago, but I went to 4 years of Catholic school out of my parish. As for as I know, it wasn't an issue at all.

It is probably more common that you would think. I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess I would say there shouldn't be a problem.

These are the priorities at my kids school. Active = Donating $500 the year before you apply.

1. Siblings of current students
2. Children of territorial parishioners who are deemed active by the pastor; children of alumni
or legacy families as determined by the pastor
3. Children of territorial parishioners of a parish without a school or no room in their territorial
parish school who are deemed active by their pastor
4. Children of non-territorial parishioners of a parish without a school or no room in their parish
school who are deemed active by their pastor
5. Children of active parishioners who live outside the territorial parish in a parish with a school that has room.
6. All others - including inactive parishioners, non-Catholics, etc.

SH’s enrollment is way down. You’ll have no problem getting them in there.

You will be behind in priority to active, in-parish kids.

The way it should be done.
