I like to compare our illustrious ancestors to McIlhenny with the nutria: you have to think of the consequences when importing non-native creatures - what if they get out?

Birmingham certainly is a perfect example of one that is, one with demographics very similar to baton rouge

I have, I have thought about it a bit.

its interesting so many people pretend to not understand what is happening. there are mismatches, people living in high trust societies that they are not well adapted to. seems like the people who get along the best in any given culture are the ones most similar to the people who founded that culture. meaning the rules and mores of that culture are aligned with a certain type of people and they thrive. and imported people from culture that operate differently are not well adapted.

what’s the excuse for the rest of the country but the same demographic?

Fair housing and expanded bus routes. There are no "sides" of town anymore.

What do you think can reasonably happen to fix the problem though

Incarceration and voluntary segregation.

I had to take my daughter to the mall a few months ago. It was a Saturday afternoon. I kept her close to me and kept my head on a swivel.

Took my son on Sunday. Went to Dick's for baseball gear, then got Cane's in the food court. I had that thang on me though. I'm not trying to be a hero, but would rather have and not need than need and not have

There were the two on Seigen: the Tinseltown incident, husband had wife whacked at the box office and the one behind Olive Garden, but nothing like this in the “good areas”
I personally know someone shot in BR (but lived) in the 1990s when he was leaving work in a ‘good’ area

There was a lot of violent crime in BR in the 90s, just like everywhere else

When are we going to stop tolerating this?

soon as you tell me your plan to fix it. Elected officials aren't the answer. Especially in BR (and Louisiana for that matter). So what is your solution?

My son was at Main Event with two buses full of middle schoolers. Today was their reward for doing well on last year's leap test. Thankfully, they didnt eat at the food court. Absolute panic when I realized he was near the mall when all of this started. To think that innocent kids were eating lunch and caught strays is sickening.

Now that this gang violence has resulted in innocent children being hurt, I wonder/hope this is a turning point for Baton Rouge somehow.

The only thing I hate going to happen is the usual metro council members will blame this on lack of funding for schools and programs.

Growing up in Uptown Geismar there were several murders there. RIP Fish.

Also the white girl abducted and murdered from Lil Pal's (Harvest Grocery today).
