Acrylic roof coatings over old existing shingles

Basically painting your shingles, you get to choose the color to even match your existing roof.
Anybody ever heard of this or had it done?

Seems viable if you caught it before the shingle material gets degraded too far.
Once the shingles themselves are curling and disintegrating I would think this repair would be short term.

House on Goodwood Blvd just before Sherwood has it in white. Not sure how good it can be.
