I do enjoy the Ace shopping experience, but their selection tends to be pretty limited and their prices are high. Quality of parts/tools/machinery on par with HD Lowes more or less.

I'm a plumber however, and I worked at Home Depot many years ago, so I know what I'm doing, what I need, where it is, etc. I don't need customer service beyond pulling stock from the overheads if the shelves are empty.

I do see what many of y'all complain about ITT, as the average homeowner doesn't know what they don't know, and yes, IMO quality, knowledgeable help is a problem at these stores.

The Belle Chasse Ace is GOAT. You can get a pirogue, crawfish pot, and concrete steps in one stop.

If I ever go in the area, I need to stop.

My only beef has been when -- long-ago during the early stages of wokeism -- ACE changed their classic radio jingle from "with the helpful hardware man" to "helpful hardware folks".

To this day it still just doesn't sound right.

Also miss the original Southdowns Hardware on Perkins, and it's short-lived replacement up the road in the Acadian Perkins Plaza Shopping Center.

Yeah I know: old man mumbles at cloud.

Ace Hardware sells overpriced Chinese crap and their store brand is embarrassingly low quality lol

Ace Hardware provides

Is a co-op (think IGA or Associated Grocers), and almost all the stores are family-owned.

So the credit goes to the individual/local entrepreneurs, who are a part of the community.

ACE reminds me of what Radio Shack was to Best Buy. It's a damn shame Radio Shack didn't make it

Love my ACE.

People mixing up all the bolt drawers are the worst part of that place. Well, their rewards app across all the platforms isn’t good.

But love my local store.

I agree with this. Me and a coworker visited one in Bayou Vista a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the experience was. The guy who helped us was an older guy and knew exactly what we were looking for and helped us. No side eye, no eye rolling. No aisles closed off because of a forklift. I didn’t have to walk a mile to get to what we were looking for.

That was my plan as well…be that old dude in the hardware store that just walks around helping people. I retired a year ago and just haven’t felt the need to start going to work again!

I have an uncle that worked for a big chemical company, retired at 65. Got bored, became dean of an ag department at a small university for 15 years, retired. Got bored, moved to a small town and worked at a small hardware store until he died at 92.

Just how some of those old guys were wired.

1000%

I only go to Lowe’s on Sundays when I’m in a jam and my Ace is closed. I pay a little more, but it’s well worth it.

I agree. Our local Ace is over 72,000 square feet and has everything! Meat like Wagyu, alligator, kangaroo..even has a wine and beer bar. My granddaughters can’t wait to go there when they come visit. Cool place.

I have heard the Pierre Part Store in Pierre Part is similar to this. They have groceries and hardware stores items like screws, paint, lumber, and plumbing all under one roof.

The Grand Isle supermarket is another all in one type of grocery store and hardware store all in one, but on a smaller scale.

It’s still mostly Chinese crap but as far as current corporate hardware stores go they aren’t so bad.

Half the time I go there they don't have what I need, and when they do it is some cheap arse version that I know is going to break. But hey, they're super nice and helpful.

Southern Pines/Pinehurst NC. Not a large metropolitan area but the store has certainly found its niche here.

Below is a link to an article from a local magazine
