It’s on the underside of the top of the trunk. You twist it counterclockwise and then the bulb comes down. It takes no more than 5 minutes to change.

I have never in my life used battery terminal protector....probably because you don't need it. You should've spent the $5 on two powerballs and a candy bar

Cabin air filters are a huge ripoff. Shops want to charge for an hour of labor when all you have to do is detach the glove box which takes ten seconds.

Probably takes them 15-30 minutes to change and it's probably a minimum of 1 hour labor charge. I'm not seeing the problem here really. Something like wipers, yes that's ridiculous, but changing that bulb is actual labor.

This is precisely the problem. Antiquated pricing structures that haven't adapted to the market.

Fair enough. Why does billing for an hour amuse you?

My wife just went to get an inspection for her registration and got failed because of the middle brake light being out.

. Who the frick pays that?

Have to admit I did this recently. I was getting my inspection and they were gonna fail me for the brake light. I think I paid like $30 for a stupid brake light.

In Virginia, you basically to have an appt for an inspection, (they lift up the car, take off the tires etc, takes about an hour or so).

Just not worth my time to have it failed, make a new appt, and then come back on another day showing I made the corrections.

Because it takes maybe a minute to change it.

Had a TPS sensor go out on my work truck. Called tire shop and asked for a quote. I had already looked the part up online and knew it was $25. They quoted me $175. I said “the part is $25 at retail and you charge $16 to mount and balance a tire, so where is the extra $140 going?” He said “well we have to calibrate the TPS to your vehicle” and I said “you mean hold the button down and turn the ignition on and off twice?” The guy chuckled and said “you got me.” I found a different place. fricking thieves.

Most likely. They'll usually do the simple fixes.

Not a quote in the sense of OP, but a girl I know was told she had a "crooked steering wheel" and it would be a couple of hundred to fix it. At least she knew all she needed was an alignment.

Big money maker for dealers. They lick their chops when a woman comes in with a tps complaint. God knows how many times they 'fixed' the problem by adding air to the spare tire.

Air conditioner resistor.
Part $30
Labor $370

Literally told them to frick off, bought the part from AutoZone that afternoon and was fixed in 45 minutes.

With their tools and expertise it was a 10 minute job.

Always let the shop tell you what’s wrong and then go do your own research on how to fix it before you just hand over money for an easy job.

A couple hundred for an alignment is somewhat reasonable (dependent on location and vehicle type of course) and fixes a crooked steering wheel, so...
