Abbott claims the WH misrepresented FDA results of formula bacteriological testing

Link to Twitter thread
It's a chain of 11 tweets but here are the highlights:
I've seen Facebook pictures of the shelves in stores being wiped out except for Similac. To those with infants, are y'all buying Similac if it's the only option left on shelves?
Also feel free to move to the PT if necessary but I figured this was more of a current event thread than a political one.

At the White House press conference today, the Press Secretary mistakenly said that our formulas were tainted and killed two infants. The deaths of these infants are a tragedy. [1/11]
quote:
CDC concluded its investigation with no findings of a link between our formulas and infant illnesses.
We conduct microbiological testing on products prior to distribution and no Abbott formula distributed to consumers tested positive for Cronobacter or Salmonella. [3/11]
quote:
In all four cases, the state, FDA, and/or CDC tested samples of the Abbott formula that was used by the child. In all four cases, all unopened containers tested negative. [7/11]

Mexico and Canada have plenty of formula. Just use amazon com.mx or .ca

I haven't read to much into this.
But basically, the production facility is all checked out and ready to go but for whatever reason can't get the final sign off from the government to reopen? Do I have that right?

That is Abbott's side of the story.
I haven't been able to find how much product this facility actually pumps out or how much it would help the problem.

Yeah, I have to admit that everything I've read has been pretty one-sided from Abbott.

Abbott has a reason to play the PR game, the FDA doesn't need to.
I doubt any fed investigation goes quickly and everyone has to sign off.

If the press secretary said this that’s a really screwed up thing to lie about
Not surprising though that this administration would do that

The same group claimed there was no vaccine before they showed up.

MUCH more likely the contamination came from poor sanitation of bottles and mishandling by caregivers.
This is 100% on government

5 kids contracting an extremely rare infection and the only link is they have formula originating from a common product from a common plant. Powder formula is tested, but no way it can be guaranteed.
Take the politics of the FDA and such out and that is pretty glaring coincidence.
No clue if the plant is responsible, hell, might be common dog food amoung all the households.

Cronobacter is a bacteria commonly found all over. It’s generally harmless, but can be lethal to infants. It also thrives in very dry environments like dry infant formula powder.
The four cases the CDC investigated were not linked, and none could be traced back to the factory. Genetic testing of the four Cronobacter bacteria samples revealed four different bacteria origins. No Cronobacter has been found in unopened Abbott products.
There was a single Salmonella case that was added to the Cronobacter investigation. That addition inflamed headlines, but had nothing to do with the original investigation.
The Cronobacter investigation and findings are not a secret. The CDC has published their findings. It doesn’t take a genius to conclude the powdered formula was contaminated at home, or nursery, or daycare, or wherever the formula was being used. Also, it was most likely not properly reconstituted and prepared by the caregiver.

You gonna take out all the negative tests ran by multiple sources, too?

So you think the FDA shouldn't have investigated the plant?

Just a guess, but there's more than two options available.

WH misrepresented
That's a shocker.
Literally the most dishonest and least transparent administration in history. Sad.

The CDC investigated 5 cases, and only had 2 samples from those 5. But yeah, those two didn't match the five samples found at Abbott.
With the rest of what is being reported the FDA, who I don't believe has published their findings, might be holding the plant up on some health inspection shite. Or trying to prove some sort of point because of the September inspection v January Inspection.
The congressional inquiry might be fun to read excerpts from.
