Anybody know what this used to be? What an unusual place to have a tall office building. No surprise it’s abandoned and half the windows are busted out.

I remember going inside as a kid circa 1977 or so.

Was that Clear Channel BR radio?

I don't remember what businesses occupied it, but I seem to remember some shooting there in maybe the 80s. Domestic situation IIRC like husband/wife stuff.

I wouldn’t spend a night in there for $1,000.

Price: $525,000 ($5 / SF)
Buyer: Rhino Holdings Wooddale LLC
Elifin’s Notes: A Nevada-based investment firm, Rhino Investments, purchases former state office building located off Wooddale Blvd.
$5/sq ft is pretty impressive. The OT should buy this place and put a big TD logo on the top.

Capital Bank building then a state office building. I worked there twice: Once for the Office of Student Financial Assistance and again for the Commission on Law Enforcement and was in the building when an active shooter killed his estranged wife and raped one of her coworkers. I vividly remember a BRPD officer pointing his Glock in my face as I was evacuating the building. The place was a dump and was supposed to be demolished.

Mid '90's on the 5th Floor at the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
This is all I could find about this case:

This tort litigation arises from a shooting incident at a workplace. Andrea Wright, an employee of the State of Louisiana, Office of Financial Assistance (state), was working at her office in the Wooddale State Office Building in Baton Rouge when her husband, Donald Ray Wright, walked into her office and shot her six times. Andrea died as a result. This tort lawsuit, filed by her mother, Lottie Holliday, followed. Named as defendants were the state, the City of Baton Rouge through its police department, Vinson Guard Service, Inc., and Vinson's insurer, National Union Fire Insurance Company of Louisiana.

This date's actually incorrect. It was February 29, 1996, a week before I left that building for another job.
The first person out the building was the armed Vinson security guard. The Executive Director of the LCLE (a former police chief) had to drag him back in to the building. We never saw that old man after that day.

It was the Capital Bank Tower. I used to make deposits for my father in the drive through and he kept an office on the 6th floor because his building was just farther up Wooddale.
Then it was sold a time or two then the state had it for awhile then last I saw someone had bought it for $250k but if I remember they never opened it. HVAC, roof and tons of updating needed to happen and it was just cost prohibiting.

That area was really a good office, light industrial area and I grew up working on Wooddale Blvd.
It started going down after Industriplex Blvd. was cut through and they started developing that south area.

That building and the Dean Tower are totally odd looking compared to the rest of the area they are located in.

I worked there for a short time in college, mid 2000s. It was a car insurance company that had one of the floors as their office. General something insurance.
Felt like I was in the 1970s.
They built a new big office by Florida and O’Neal, but I think they’ve abandoned that one too now.

At approximately 1:58 p.m., she spoke with an officer and beseeched him to send someone to help her because her husband threatened to kill her. A sergeant informed her the police could not respond to her call unless she had a restraining order in her possession. Andrea telephoned plaintiff to bring the restraining order to the building. At approximately 2:20 p.m., Donald Ray Wright arrived at the Wooddale office building and proceeded without delay to the fifth floor, where Andrea worked, sought Andrea out and began shooting her.
Protect and serve, eh?
