Flying is expensive and isn’t a right. It’s not for everyone. If you can’t fit, perhaps you should reconsider flying
But it’s not the fatties who are complaining
Also this why it’s always better to fly Southwest

Yep. Just the regular seat belt probably goes to 50”
At my heaviest I was 48 and pushing 50 and I didn’t even need an extender

Let me fix this thread:

In the article she talks about them raising the arm rests.
PSA. I was on a flight and a lady tried to raise the arm rest. I wouldn't let her. She called the Flight Attendant who informed her that if she couldn't fit in the seat with the arm rest down she would have to be reseated or fly on another flight. They found room for her in the back. Delta.
Don't let them raise the arm rest.

Idiots have been hearing about reparations so long they don’t know the difference between that and a refund…

Seats at other venues have gotten bigger because people have gotten fatter. There is finite space on an airplane.

I’m in agreement with the lady. I hope she wins or makes AA make policy changes

They should be punished

I am in agreement with the lady too, hope she wins AND AA makes policy changes — because she should have a reasonable expectation of a comfortable seat for the plane flight. So should the “fat” person. I’m not talking about morbidly obese, but a 40-year old man who is 6’0” 205 isn’t going to fit in a 17” seat much less be comfortable. You put one of those on the aisle and one by the window, and the person in the middle is going to be crushed.

Other than being 44 and not 40 those are about my dimensions, I have no issues being "comfortable" in either the aisle or window seat with no spillover and I'm not in contact with the arm rests. You can always use the extra 2" toward the window or the free space the aisle provides for shoulder space and to be able to get a little bit of a leg spread in.
No one over 5'9" should book a middle seat just based on shoulder room alone unless you are rail thin. Pay a little bit extra and get a better seat.

They would have to just walk me to the gate. No way in hell I'd sit like that for any period of time, let alone 4 hours.

Bunch of poors in the thread. Fly first class and this isn’t a problem.

They should have one of those things for the fat like they do the luggage and if you’re too fat you ride with the checked luggage.

I don’t fly coach.
Not some OT baller, but I used my points to upgrade a couple of times about 15 years ago, and after seeing that it really is a different world up front, I’ve decided that it’s either worth the price or I don’t need to go.

If they are oozing out of the seats onto another then 100% they need to pay for two seats.
