Visiting Boston will make you rethink the south.
Funny story, after the patriots game, they blocked entrance to the train system, and were making sure everyone had a ticket. We hadn't bought ours yet, so they just waived us in and told us the machines were across from where you enter trains, there wasn't anyone else checking tickets.
Our NOLA party was floored...."so like.... you just go in there under the honor system?" Must be nice to live in a city like that.

Literally the whitest big city in America. We were there for the Celtics WC parade a few years ago with 1M in attendance. Maybe saw 20 blacks the whole day.

I experienced the same thing in Boston. I walked from a hotel in Somerville to Union Square station. They had a kiosk to get a ticket, but no gate or anything. There were a couple of transit workers there. I asked them what was up since I didn’t see a gate. They asked where I was going, and I told them I’m from out of town headed to a Sox game. They told me not to worry and just get on. I did need a ticket to come back, but that station required you to scan.

It’s known as a pretty racist city…maybe it’s all by design?

Didn’t your life fall apart shortly after your trip to Boston. Maybe you’re projecting?

I’ve only been there once for a few days buts it’s easily my favorite large US city. Like you said, downtown is clean, safe, and very few bums. I’m a history nerd so that was obviously my favorite part.

I suppose it fell apart shortly before. Either way, that was a few years back and I am putting myself together piece by piece.
Either way, Boston has been known as being a racist city. That’s not some secret. It seems like the people in this thread agree that it’s kept some trash away from the city.

I’m going to edit. Boston absolutely has racist tendencies. Townie traditions die hard. But weirdly southern places point to it and say “see! It’s not just us!” Rather than…you know…not be racist.
Either way, I remember you starting a thread about how upset you were by rainbow flags in Boston and weeks later starting a thread about how your life had fallen apart because your wife left you and you weren’t sure if the kid was yours. I laughed and laughed.
I’m glad you’re doing better. And I hope that continues for you. But the irony was too delicious.

Re homelessness and what the month of the year means.
It's early November up there. They could get snow and ice any day now. Homeless folk know to migrate to warmer climates, just like any other snow birds.
My BIL lived in Boston for several decades and made money converting buildings into condos while doing a well paying day job. He moved to D.C. for the more pleasant weather.

We MAY get snow in a month. Probably not. Ice? January at best.

Worked for a year for a TV station in Boston a few decades back.
Funny thing is that the native accent reminded me of Charleston, SC.

Classy. Not exactly sure how to take this. Someone possibly disagrees with you politically, so you’re glad their wife turned out to be a cheating whore…I guess?

Yeah, totally seems that way.

So…I pointed out something that’s negative (to me) about a city I otherwise enjoyed, and someone my wife revealing herself to be a cheating whore once she became pregnant with my child is turnabout…?
I’m just trying to figure this out here.

I’ll clarify. You had an issue with rainbow flags in Boston, synonymous with the right to gay marriage, while your straight marriage was flushing down the shitter.
Yeah. That’s pretty funny to me.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t want you to not have a better life moving forward.

I loved living in Boston. I used to walk around by myself all over at all times of the day and night by myself. I never felt unsafe. I would move back to that area tomorrow if I could.
Meanwhile, in L.A., I saw someone shot on the street less than 1/2 a mile from my house.

Best city in the country by far imo. Great food, lots of history, people are great, clean.
It’s my favorite as well. We took a trip up there with my grandpa before he passed away and caught a game at Fenway. Reminded me of all the best parts of STL (small city feel and friendly) but next to the ocean. Partying there is a blast, too.
