I'm writing a story involving a team of 6. What rank should I make the team leader? How about the other 5? What realistic rankings would those airmen have?

Those guys dont seem to make rank as fast as some MOS's/Branches. Not too uncommon to see E-4 PJ's.

Takes an average of 3 years to make E-4 in the airforce

I’m guess an e7/8 and o2/3

Now a regular platoon of 30 it’s e6/7 and o1/2

OK, so call the leader Sargeant. How would he address the others? He wouldn't call them E5 Joe Blow. Would he just address them by name and not include rank?

Why not just refer to them as airmen?

Shoot I would get waivers for all my 15R’s to make E-4 in 18 months.

If that's the proper way to do it, I will!

Typically e5-e7 are just called sergeant, e8 and higher you typically say master, 1st sgt, or sergeant major

That’s army, marines you can also say gunny which is an e7

In Air Force you can say master, chief, senior chief etc.

The reason being is that these are all senior nco’s

Even in the Army it’s team leader E-5, squad leader E-6, platoon sergeant E-7...

I was a squad leader at e4 and e5

I mean technically that’s correct but I’ve seen many e6 plt sgt’s and I had an e7 1st sgt
