Dog was about 7 or 8 years old. Husband worked night shift, came home around 3am and went to the kitchen, supposedly as he always did, normal routine. Then for no obvious reason, the dog attacked him, biting his arm to the point where he now has nerve damage as a result.
shite happens but I know I've never heard a story like that about labs or golden retrievers for example, so it's specific to certain breeds, obviously.

Had a Dobie for 11 years who grew up with my stepdaughter. Never had a problem with him. Extremely gentle dog. Dobies crave attention though. They want to be next to you all the time and are constantly alert to what's happening around you.

Ours is very gentle and enjoys our company, wanting to be near us all the time when we are home. However, she also knows that when it is time for "kennel," it is time for "kennel."

I can't speak for Pitbulls, since I have never owned one. Unfortunately, you won't hear about any "feel good" stories with Pitbulls (or if you do, they are rare) as they don't make for good news stories.

Yeah, after 9 years it in pretty aggravating. Can't even go in the other room without him tagging along. Sits outside the bathroom door until I finish. It was cute at first, but not anymore

There are cases of labs an retrievers tearing into people. It's a lot more rare, but it does happen. Even little dogs can wreck hell on kids, maybe not kill them, but severely scar them. Part of the risk you accept by having animals live with you.
